Hi

I am hoping that my Thai wife will be joining me in the UK in the Spring of next year on a settlement visa. Pretty much all of the paperwork is now sorted, but I need to be sure that the visa will be valid for the proposed date of travel.

We plan that she will fly to the UK with me in early April - not sure of the exact date because it has to fit in with some work travel I will be doing.

The current plan is:

Submit application to VFS about January 6th with a requested date of travel about March 30th (so post-dated a little less than 3 months). Visa is valid for travel for 30 days so actual travel will be during April.

Does this sound correct?

Thanks.

When my wife's entry permit was issued in October, the average processing time was 30 working days. I know that a number of other people's applications around that time were pretty similar. Your dates, therefore, look ok.

Processing times depend upon demand and the official advice from UKVI is to allow three months for processing a settlement application.

As you say, she can request the start of her visa be postponed for up to three months, so your plan is fine.

However, don't just request this on the form but in your sponsor's letter as well.

As soon as she receives her passport back, check the visa's start date; mistakes cannot be rectified later.

Remember that she cannot use the visa until the start date.
