I'm looking for a reputable company to do this in Mae Rim, anyone have first hand knowledge of a suitable company?

I did ask this question some months ago and the couple of leads supplied didn't pan out so apologies for the repeat.

Many thanks in advance.

Is your wiring embedded in the walls or is it external?

Single story house with large attic space, sockets and switches embedded in the walls in the living space but all connections and runs are easily accessible in the attic (partially floored, fully insulated but cable runs on top of the insulation.

If its anything like my house in Mae Rim.....it looks like a big bowl of spaghetti. I can understand why you want to rewire...it can be a damn nightmare to try and track down a fault, more so when wires aren't colour coded.

From what I've noticed all electricians (Thai) appear to be self educated with no formal training. Maybe construction sites employ suitably qualified electricians? Methinks a western qualified person could make a killing in this line of work (And that would not come as a shock).....sorry poor attempt at a pun!

I'll ask around and see who other people have used....might be wishful thinking in getting a proper electrician.

Thanks CMK, yes, all the wires coming out of my breaker panel are red and all the wire joins are in the open under electrical tape! But the runs in the attic are mostly encased in yellow pipe and I've slowly been making individual circuits safe and rewiring in parts but the job is just too big for me. The catalyst for this I might add is that a bird got into the roof space and pulled at the soft covering of the wires in a downlighter, eventually it pulled too hard and fried itself. The bare live wires lay just a fraction above some foil covered insulation which when I went near it, moved, sparked and set the foil backed paper alight! A small fire only but it freaked me, hence this mornings add.

Yep that's the way mine is too. Weird way of doing things. In NZ anything under 6ft must be in conduit. Wires in the ceiling are not required to be housed in conduit unless it's a commercial property. However wiring must be affixed in uniform lines and attached to structure.

Good luck in finding a good electrician and if I locate one I'll be sure to drop you a line.

I recently hired an electrical contractor to do some electrical work. The boss is in the Masters Degree Program at CMU - Electrical Engineering and Power Management. I didn't actually meet him as he sent his crew but I did communicate with him by telephone and facebook. He was very particular about doing things properly; i.e. using the correct gauge wire, conduit, etc. He used the term "safety" a number of times. His installers were more professional than any others I have met here. The only thing was - for every step they called the boss to get his opinion or decision, which was a lot of back and forth. I guess on a bigger job he would come out himself.

I'm hesitant to "recommend" them as I only dealt with them on a small job but will happily send you the contact info this evening when I return. I think they may even be in Mae Rim if I recall.

I have an excellent electrician here in Mae Rim. (and I don't say this lightly ..... most guys I've had dealings with in the past are just downright dangerous)

Only problem is ...... he is working on a project for me and I can't spare him or his crew for the next couple of months.

and he only speaks Thai .......

But if your job can wait a little ... pm me for details.

one strategy is to find out the electrical wholesalers.if you know of one in mae rim then ask them for some contacts.

in the city this place is the wholesaler hang out.its on Wualai road. if you go an stand there for 30 minutes any morning before 11am you will be able to compile a list of electrical contractors.

i hate the place you cant even wander around without knocking stuff off the shelves becasue so many tradesmen in there.
