Rajabhakti Park closed for 'renovation' Monday

The students apparently have no intrest in anything other than being a pain in the arse to anyone of authority,

they probably display the same attitude in the daycare they attend on a non regular schedule.

At least the grounds should stay as clean as they are presently, by keeping those who seem most interested in

being diruptive in their free time. I never noted any group cleaning up after themselves after they finish their quest for whatever they are trying to accomplish.

I might have let them go in but charge each '' farang price for entry to national parks '' just for being a pest on/ during renovation time

TROLL...............................................

So what would you suggest people do when they have legitimate questions but told not to ask, they want to have the freedom to travel too a public park but have been prevented, the military multiple times harassing the mother of one of the students, to prevent his travel too the park, Which contravenes international law on the freedom and liberty of civilian's, so go ahead tell us what would you do if this was your country???

I wonder if corruption in a park that is dedicated to the Thai royalty can be considered lese majeste.

I am sure if it was any other than the army it would of very much considered so. Just another example of the crazily selective enforcement of laws.

Rajabhakti Scandal: Military Closes Park 'For Maintenance,' Detains Dozens of Activists
By Teeranai Charuvastra
Staff Reporter

Soldiers bar tourists from entering Rajabhakti Park today. The army insists the park has been closed down for maintenance issues.

BANGKOK — For the second time in a week, the military has intercepted a group of activists who attempted to travel to the army’s historical park said to be rife with corruption.

Sirawith Serithiwat, co-founder of the pro-democracy group Resistant Citizens, and dozens of his supporters were arrested aboard a train en route to Rajabhakti Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province Monday morning.

The authorities employed several drastic measures to intercept the group, including cutting off the train car that Sirawith was riding, closing down the historical park “for maintenance” and threatening Sirawith’s mother on Sunday to convince her son to call off the trip.

iLaw, an NGO group that tracks legal prosecution of anti-junta activists, said on Twitter that they were told 33 people have been arrested so far.

Military detains student activists for Rajabhakti park probe visit.

651-wpcf_728x407.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The military this morning obstructed the attempt of a small group of student activists to Rajabhakti museum park on a trip seen as a symbolic protest against irregularities involved with the military in the construction of the park.

Soldiers intercepted the activist leader, Siriwith Seritiwat, a Thammasat University student and member of the New Democracy Movement, or known in the social network as “Ja New” as the Thonburi-Hua Hin train arrived at Ban Pong railway station at about 10 am.

When the train arrived at the station, soldiers went on board and asked Sirawith and his student colleagues who were wearing black T-shirts with “Coup & Corruption” marking in the middle to leave the train.

When he refused to leave, soldiers then apprehended a lawyer who was with him on the train.

A brief negotiation was held and the activist demanded that his lawyer friend be freed.

But this was rejected.

When he insisted to continue on board the train, soldiers then disconnected the car which he and his team were travelling in, and allowed the train to continue to Hua Hin.

All activists were then escorted to an unknown army barrack in a bus for questioning.

Among the group are some who were previously arrested, charged, held and ultimately released in June for protesting against the military junta.

Earlier Siriwith wrote on his Facebook that his visit would go ahead whether he was arrested or killed.

The activists said the trip was to be a reminder to the public that corruption also engaged the military which they said positions itself as aggressively anti-corruption.

They wanted someone should take responsibility for the park, especially since former army chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, who oversaw the billion-baht park project, admitted to some financial irregularities.

Among allegations the former army chief confirmed were “commissions” collected by a middleman from foundries approved to cast the giant king statues that are the park’s main feature.

What sad and pathetic people the Thai's have running their country...

It is mind-boggling that they cannot see what a complete laughing stock they are making of themselves in their attempts to cover up their own criminality and hypocrisy

tragic really that the so called leaders of the country are so completely clueless...

ps I am still waiting for one of the junta cheerleaders to enlighten me on why this is a good thing, shan't hold my breath.....

"Maintenance" on a park that has only been opened for a month? Just how frigging stupid do the Junta think people are?

very!!!

nah I don't think they even care what the majority want or think they only care about themselves and their cronies, they have proven this many times and also shown time and again that the rules and laws do not apply to them...

If the above flapdoodle is really the best the junta defenders can come up with, I would call that 1-0 to the other team.

True, 39 posts and not a single "but, but, but...Thaksin!" post. The fan club is definitely losing steam!

As ever, it depends on who is vein accused, and how much his accuser (rival/ enemy ) wants to get rid of him.

Traffic-wise..around the entrance to the park was a real mess this morning..big tour buses arriving in 2's & 3's only to be told "closed for renovation"..on a public holiday! Cars too were parked up in the middle of the road wondering what the hell was going on..? As we cycled by there were many, many folk lookin' lost & frustrated..sorry for anyone who'd come from far away.

Another shot in the foot. Scarcely opened the new “landmark” already needs maintenance 555. Second: people who question corruption in the construction and ask for transparence are detained while those who forked in pass undetected. Looks like some people here only wear camouflage so no one can spot the dirty dots on their vest.

Thai army blocks anti-corruption protest, detains activists

BANGKOK (AP) — The Thai military has blocked an anti-corruption protest, detaining 33 students and other activists who were headed to a park honoring past kings that was allegedly built with money from shady dealings involving several senior officers.

The military's efforts to quash Monday's protest included detaching the railway car on which the protesters were traveling to Rajabhakti Park, near the seaside town of Hua Hin, before taking them into custody. Officials abruptly announced that the park, on army land, was closed for the day for renovations.

The case has become a major scandal in Thailand, largely because the military junta that has run the country since staging a coup last year had vowed to reform the country's political system to stamp out corruption, which it blames on politicians.

The military - it would appear are somewhat anti-intellectual by nature.... don't have a very nice record of interacting with students who get involved in politics. It is a sad reflection on any government that is apparently afraid of it's own young people....the future of Thailand.

Visited last week, didn't notice any cracks or reason for maintenance.

Among the Thai, a few Falang, but a considerable number of Asian tourists in tour vans.

- Closing the park "for unplanned maintenance " , when you booked a tour including it

and given additionally the chance to watch "Thai Army in combat" at the train station,

and during your train ride given the chance for some workout, simply by having to change the train car?

Maybe just a wonderful new idea from ToT to increase tourist numbers!

Something like:

Thailand the permanent adventure!

Expect the unexpected!

Never try, never know!
