Thailand Attracting 3D Printer Manufacturers
BY JACOB MASLOW

BANGKOK: -- Manufacturers of 3D printers all across the globe are making a push into the Thai market. The move is facilitating a tremendous growth cycle in Southeast Asia as a result.

The largest 3D printer maker in the world, XYZprinting Inc., established its first Southeast Asian office in Bangkok, and has invested roughly 20 million baht.

The company, based in Taiwan, strongly believes that 2D printing technology will be obsolete within 10 years, and 3D printers will take their place in homes and offices around the globe.

Simon Shen, chairman of the company, stated that Thailand has tremendous potential for the 3D printing market, especially for fine art, creative work, and industrial design projects. With 3D printing, companies and individuals can take advantage of high-end system features at much lower price points, which will boost speed and productivity.

2d printing obsolete within 10 years ? LOL.

Unless these new printers start printing paper as well as the actual document content it won't happen.

"The company, based in Taiwan, strongly believes that 2D printing technology will be obsolete within 10 years" That is an absurd assumption! A 3D printer has a different task to a 2D printer.

10 years or more ago, we were all told that with advanced computer technology in archiving, etc, we would have paperless offices.

A few things were not considered before making that statement to the world............................wink.png

Well, in Thailand that will probably never happen because nobody in government would know what to do if they couldn't fill things out in triplicate but, while 10 years was wildly off, people are using considerably less and less paper.

I'm far from being a millennial so it took me a looooong time to get over my obsession with writing on paper. I'm a list maker, idea jotter, type of person so I used to have a pen and either a notebook or scrap paper in my pocket at all times. But over the last few years, I've made the transition over to keeping notes in my phone. I haven't purchased a new notebook in a few years.

Paperless? No. A lot less paper? Yes.

Yippee. In Thailand they can make 3D copies of my passport and all the stupid forms we have to fill out.

But the downside is that the warehouses will have to be SO much bigger to store them all.

And the landfill will get interesting too.

But the upside is that teenagers will be able to print their own guns .

Thai government offices are getting there tho: they now have about 1 computer every 10-20 desks...

Maybe was 10 x 10 years they meant :)

Absurdity is how they state things in the LOS. Everything they announce is over the top. Did ownership change or do new businesses still only control 49%. I would sincerely worry about who owns the other 51%

Yes, how many multiple copies of my passport have I made in 6 years? Where are they all? How long would it take to find one?
