KhunLing
A female friend sort of likes me... I want to say "I care for you"...as I do... Not love etc. For the life of me, I can't find how to simply say "I care for you" in Thai.
meadish_sweetball
Tricky. I'll leave this to somebody who knows. I can't think of a good one either, the ones that spring to mind could easily be misinterpreted.

Perhaps ผมชอบคุณในลักษณะเป็นเพื่อน phom[R] chawb[F] khun[M] nai[M] lak[H]-sa[L]-na[L] pen[M] pheuan[L] / ผมชอบคุณทำนองเป็นเพื่อน phom[R] chawb[F] khun[M] tham[M] nawng[ML] pen[M] pheuan[L] = 'I like you as a friend' but it sounds just as tacky in Thai as it does in English
KhunLing
Yes, it's a delicate balancing act... Made more so by the fact i am married and that I slept with my friend a few nights ago. Made worse by the fact she's a 'decent' girl...and has love in her eyes every time she talks to me. I need the right words here or I'm in trouble

KhunLing
I wasn't drunk actually. It was more the emotion of a moment. I've told my Mrs. She's okay as long as I don't end up with a 'mia noi'. The other girl is brilliant. Thus my concern. I believe the words I am after are Huang Yai

I believe the OP is saying he is "Huang Yai" - greatly concerned - about his future relationship vis a vis the "other girl" ; i.e. he's not intending to use that term to express his feelings towards her after their recent dalliance. That said I must say that I too cannot think of any way to express in Thai "that was fun but let's just remain friends". In fact I can see no advantage in trying to recover the previous platonic relationship - not in a Thai ethos anyway. In the OP's position I'd just be thankful my wife had - apparently - forgiven me, and make a definite point of avoiding any further contact with the other woman if I wanted to keep my marriage on a reasonably firm footing. If he continues to socialise with the other woman I don't think any Thai wife would believe that there was no longer any physical relationship. meadish_sweetball
Perhaps you're right, I thought he was referring to ห่วงใย (to worry ; feel anxious about ; to be concerned about), a set expression, rather than ห่วงใหญ่ ... ห่วงใย is what you feel about your loved ones, your close family etc. when they are not near you. Or is this what you meant?

KhunLing
Hotter than you'd believe, which makes it all the harder to ignore her. Put it this way, the current words I need are "I am f.ucked". Because I am. The friend now considers herself my girlfriend, even has my photo in her wallet. The Mrs is as angry as I've ever seen her. My fault, yes. But man, women have to know the effect they have on men. I mean, she kissed me and made it VERY clear there was much more on offer and she's hot. I am guilty, but it wasn't exactly easy to walk away. I wish I had though as I am severely screwed!

"Chun ben huang khun lae ruu suek dee dee" for me is sounds like.. "I care for you and enjoy spending time together". Ohh..what a diffecultly. In the Rai!
It sounds like you are in the weeds buddy. I am not trying to council you but it sounds like you need to decide whats more important, hurting the HOT girls feelings or your wife's feelings. If you go for hurting the hot girls feelings I would say something like. ผมไม่ได้เสียใจในเรื่องที่เกิดขึ้น เเละมันอาจจะเกิดขึ้นอีกครั้งมันใม่ยุติธรรมสำหรับทุกคน ผมคิดว่าเราเป็นเเค่เพื่อนกันอีกต่อไป pom mai dai siajai nai luang ti gert kuun lae man arjja gert iik krung man mai uuditaam samrap tuk kon. pom kit wa rao ben care puan gan iik dor bai I am not sorry at all about what happened but if it happens again then its not fair on anyone. We can only be good friends again from now on. This is just 1 way as there are many ways. I dont know your situation or relationship so I am only going by what I do know. Good luck and let us know how you get on.. ITR Edited December 13, 2006 by In the Rai!

Automatically implying that while she is good (compliment) that in saying you won't forget her also means that she isn't going to move up beyond anything other than gik status. If she is too thick to understand this, then introduce her to me, I will explain more detail in person (and get you out of the dog box if she is as hot as you say). :-)
