BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metro, the operator of MRT subway, announced today that it would operate later than usual on New Year's Eve.

To facilitate New Year revellers, the service on the night would be extended from midnight to 2am of January 1.

BMCL also launched a 1-day pass, priced at Bt120, for unlimited trips on the day.

It was seriously proposed three or four years ago as a means of reducing road deaths over the Christmas period and right now there's nothing I would put past the prohibition zealots.
