PHILIPPINES -- Shoulder deep in flood waters, residents in the centre of the Philippines are struggling with the aftermath of yet another typhoon that has killed at least 41 people.

The strong winds and downpour caused by Typhoon Melor have left a trail of destruction, and thousands of families expect to spend the holidays homeless and without electricity.

“We really need help, especially because we’re approaching Christmas and the new year,” said 62 year-old Mercy Isip, a resident of the Pampanga province. “We can’t even work because of the floodwaters.”

More than 700,000 people have been displaced, and schools remained closed on Friday (December 18).

Typhoon Melor died out in the south China sea on Thursday but the country is now bracing for a tropical rainstorm that could make flooding worse over the weekend.

This is such a shame. The Fillipinos seem to be copping it really bad the last couple of years. Maybe time to invest in infrastructure such as drainage and the like. Hope the next storm dies out before it gets to them.

whistling.gifThe Philippines is getting the Typhoons particularly bad these past few years due to effects of the current EL NINO cycle.

This EL NINO cycle is one of the worst since 1990, which was the previous record EL NINO.

Was just talking to the front desk receptionist here in the residence where I live this morning.

She was saying that her family's house in the Philippines has been flooded for the week due to flooding from that Typhoon and the water is just going down now.

So the entire family has been living in an upstairs bedroom for more than a week now.

Her family is farmers, and this is the 2nd time in a year they have lost their crops to floodwaters.
