So im currently in CM and plan on going to koh samui with a friend for new years (possibly around dec 29-30 and return jan 2-3) what would be the cheapest option to travel there and back and preferably something that doesnt take more than 12-14 hours each way

By rejecting anything that take 12-14 hours you have eliminated cheap. Even flying to Surat Thani this late would cost around 15000 Baht round trip.

Too be honest if you cant afford it dont go, Samui is hardly cheap. Find somewhere else!

1st you say cheap. Then you talk about time.Once you put time in the equasian then your talking about something different.

Bangkok airlines from Bangkok to Samui not cheap.Maybe take A plane to Bangkok. From Bangkok any transportation besides

Plane is going to be time consuming.Either your going to have to spend some money or take A longer time to get there.

Hope you have already booked or are staying with friends.

Regardless of what you may read about places being quiet so far for the high season, the dates you are planning to be there will be truly booked solid.

Air Asia Chiang Mai Direct to Koh Samui and their bus to Samui.

You mean Flight to Surathani and bus to Samui ? i guess???

Bus to Samui?

Better make sure the windows are closed nice and tight.

Bus from the airport to donsak, ferry to nathon, no open windows, but normally you will stay on an upper deck on the ferry, not in the buscoffee1.gif

To the OP, i forgot to say, as other posters mentioned already; too many wishes at once. Cheap and less than 12 - 14 hours from CM to Samui over new year, won't happen neither in this nor in your next live

You really need to book your room today, as vacancies are being filled quickly. Budget around +1000 baht a night at Lamai (which is a lively tourist spot). Agree with AA flight CNX to Surat Thani, and bus to Donsak ferry (takes about 45 minutes). Flight costs per person are around 6,000 baht both ways at this time of year. If you're paying for your friend, it ain't cheap. I'd say a minimum budget of 50,000 for 5 days stay.

It's New year, you have to bite the bullet, and shell out the dosh.

Ride bikes. Big ones. I bought my Phantom in Krabi and rode it back home about 140km north of BKK. Whole trip was just over 1,000km and took around 12hrs riding time, but hey, a Phantom is only 200cc. smile.png At least this way you could come and go as you pleased or as events dictate.
