Public Health Min: Health service standards lifted during past year

BANGKOK, 24 December 2015 (NNT) -- The Ministry of Public Health has affirmed that it was successful in improving health service quality overthe past year while pledging to urgently make the healthcare system inclusive of everyone.

Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn led his ministry in the declaration of work progress as part of the government’s one-year performance report. He said efforts have constantly been made to raise medical service standards in the country, with an ultimate goal of ensuring equal access to healthcare for all citizens and reducing fatalities from illnesses.

The Minister added that ad hoc laboratories have been set up nationwide specifically to help the country detect emerging infectious diseaseswithin eight hours. A disease monitoring system is being developed at the community level, with over a thousand rapid response units and onemillion village health volunteers involved.

Five targets have been set by the ministry for the year 2016. They consist of minimizing road casualties through a year-long campaign, providing quality health services to people of all ages, increasing convenience and reducing congestion in hospitals, preventing chronic diseasesamong people and improving the quality of medicines and vaccines.
