Perhaps the "authorities" should consider Thai history - topless women (but those photos never moved).

Maybe it really was the awful sound that upset them? Or someone was just trying to curry favour with the Thai leadership? Another song is called for gigglem.gif

Thai culture boiled down to it's essence. Lewd, loud, utterly moronic and devoid of artistry.

Wrong on all counts, actually. Most of the intriguing subtleties of Thai culture are lost on those clueless critics who more closely fit that description.

Agreed. That statement is equivalent to saying all Mexican culture boils down to are lowriders in Española.

The ONLY thing lewd in that photo is those damned sound trucks. They should be flat out banned. Period.

My bloody neighbour had one of those damned things playing at his party this year (I say one, it certainly sounded like more), and there is a workshop specialising in their installation nearby often churning out a racket. Thai culture is changing!

Well that's just ignorant...Mexican culture is about lowriders, tequila and cocaine. ;)

OMG! They were dancing sexy in shorts. To what levels will things be reduced to there. For crying out loud. It was a new years party. Not some fundraiser or upper echelon business party.

I have seen African tribal dances sexier than what these girls do.

I do not believe the African dance bit.

African tribal dancers tend to hold a rather large weapon in their hands.

That's the lovely contemporary version, then you have the ultra-boring Hindu ripoff where you sit down and go oooh-aah synchronized with the other hi-so onlookers.

Controversy started after a group of scantily-clad female dancers climbed onto the pick-up trucks and started dancing in a sexually-suggestive way. Some of the dancers and onlookers were also seen drinking alcohol.

Scantily clad females are EVERYWHERE. So what's the big deal?

Oh, and some dancers and onlookers were drinking alcohol? So what's new? In fact, at what events in Thailand are people NOT drinking alcohol? Just wait, New Years is only a few days away.

going to the core of thainess; a complete denial/ignoring of reality - to the bewilderment of everyone but a thai

So one old lady gets cranky and everyone suffers

Just like a few Thai idiots get drunk and suddenly there are alcohol restrictions

Whats next? Expats want the same rights afforded Thais who are expats in other countries ???

-sic-

These pick-ups with ridiculous sound systems, typify Thais selfish behaviour. If these idiots want mobile getto blasters they should fit ALL the speakers inside the pick-up and soundproof the cab so it is only these brain dead morons that can hear them.

All pick-ups with these sound systems should be crushed including the " Town crier " style advertising vans that cruise the streets blasting out the usual advertising rubbish..... Thailand really does live in the dark ages and cannot use modern forms of media advertising ( Like TV, Radio, and now the Internet )

Asked the (Thai) wife where the <deleted> is Uttaradit......then mentioned the comments in this thread.

She laughed and showed me a very, young, shapely falang lady wearing nothing but one of those large, golden Thai traditional headdress and a necklace (with more than sufficient pixelation of her nether-regions) which has gone viral on the Thai Facebook in the past few days.

Apparently the pix was taken on a beach near samut prakan, the police have since "interviewed" the "lady"

The Thai's bloggers are not at all happy with their national costume being denigrated by wanton western nudism!!

Come on Thai Visa .. give us the A grade stories (and the pix) and spare us the up-country TAT promotional stuff!!

Come on Thailand and quit acting like Thailand is better then other countries in the world. Do you ever watch MTZ or seeing a Miley Ciruus show. Thailand is known for it beautiful women and the Thai culture. If this act needs the mayor to apologize for these dancers they should shut down every walking street bar and dance place in Thailand. Most tourist do not come for the beautiful sights alone!

I 100% believe your wife is Thai, it had to have been a farang, no Thai would do such a thing. Too bad then it is a Thai: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/881595-exhibitionist-model-who-posed-naked-in-public-to-turn-herself-in/

Now if it had been a white farang, at least three black men and some heavy duty rubber accessories would have been included. Exhibitionists here are amateurs.

Seems to be sliding toward Khun Phibun's polices of the 1930's when "Proper Dress" for Thai people was prescribed as shown in the poster with improper dress on the left and proper "western" clothing on the right. Have not seen the trucks in Chiang Mai yet, but I am sure they are coming. The health ministry should ban them as a threat to the peoples' hearing and mental well being.

There's a reason why Thai government from the Marshal Plaek Pibulsonggram-era (1938-1945) promoted the civilized form of dress...

Because it was Thai culture at that time for men to wear a sarong, no shirt, shaved head, wearing Muslim hats or turbans and chewing betel nut.

Just as it was Thai culture at that time for women to bare their upper body or use pha-thaep (breast wrap) or wear only undershirt or carry a load on the head.

Honor your past, Thai people. In order to understand your future, you must acknowledge the past, not deny it.

Not only honor, bring it back I say. That's the correct attire for tropical climate. Same with the buildings, stop building western sweat boxes and revert back to the high ceiling houses on stilts.

In hindsight.....more the case of buying the wife a phone with a bigger screen or me new reading glasses!

Thats the old vs the young generation. These coyote shows are the normal at organized big car events and modified truck shows. Big sound systems ladies dancing on pickups nothing wrong with that, but a bunch of tools standing around with their 10k baht down trucks trying to 'up' themselves doesnt impress me . But bring it to the country folks in a small town like utaratit its gonna upset a few people. ive seen the place, if you ask me it needs some excitement im0
