I need to have a police report made for a lost passport as soon as possible but can't go to my embassy in Bangkok to apply for a new passport until about 10 days later,so I was wondering how long the police report would be valid for.Thanks.

I don't think a police report for a lost passport ever expires.

Before sure you make copies to use at immigration to have your stamps reinstated in your new passport.

...one would think that a police report...with pertinent dates and facts would be considered 'a legal document'...thus no expiry date...???

But you should immediately contact your Embassy to report it lost to prevent fraudulent/terrorist use. Although hopefully police have already done that.

I don't think the police make such a report to an embassy in case of a lost passport. Last time this happened to me, 2006, the local police wrote down the details in a ledger then gave me the report. Very relaxed, and little effort on their part so I'm pretty sure they didn't go the extra step.

So, yes, a phone call or email to the embassy when the loss is discovered is a good idea.

FYI, several years later I found that "lost" passport, just misplaced in the house. I did report the finding to the embassy and next time I was downtown, stopped in to show it to them. I wanted to be taken off the "bad guy" rolls.

Valid until they can not find it OR usually 72 hours.

The question asked was how long the report itself was valid to use to get a new passport. In that case it would never become invalid.

You seem to be referring to what the police do after the report is done but I am not sure what you wrote is accurate.
