ISIL forces civilians to act as human shields as the battle for Ramadi rages

As the Iraqi army continues to force ISIL out of the city of Ramadi.

A picture of life under the Sunni militant group is beginning to unfold.

ISIL took control of Ramadi last May and since then a months long battle has raged as Iraqi forces attempt to retake the city.

Severe shortages of food and water are a daily occurance in the rubble city.

As the army made inroads into Ramadi ISIL forced as many as 1,000 families into the east of the city killing or threatening to kill those that refused to move.

One man spoke of ISIL’s brutality:“Daesh may God punish them. They shot people in the head who refused to go with them to al-Sufiya. The bodies are still there. You can go and see them. There were seven.”

The Iraqi military claims they are being used as human shields.

Ramadi represents a rare success for the army against ISIL, which still controls large parts of Iraq and Syria.

Yes, however, its not just arabs. This was widely used in Afghanistan too. So, there is some connecting 'cultural' thread that binds such disparate people together in the conduct of cowardly warfare.

Other insurgency use human shields e.g. FARC, not surprising when faced with overwhelming fire power from conventional forces.

Assad's conventional forces place human shields on their armoured vehicles and of course other conventional armed forces have used human shields in warfare; ain't unique to those of the Islamic faith.

Very little, if anything is unique, to the religion. Religions, by and large, are there for the comfort and protection of the believers. In this case, they provide neither for the average person. They determine who lives, who dies, how you will die, whether you will be beheaded, burnt alive or crucified. They specialize in not very unique, but very cruel ways of harming others.

As far as they are concerned, the average believer is treated no better than sheep being taken to the slaughter. It's just a matter of how they wish to slaughter you.

What courageous warriors. And these are the people that have created so much havoc and terror throughout 2015? Such displays of bravery suggest a ground war is indeed what is needed to rid the world of them.
