MANILA: -- The Department of Foreign Affairs said that with the Supreme Court's endorsement of the constitutionality of the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement, the Philippines and the United States are now set to discuss the arrangements for its full implementation, philstar.com reported.

DFA spokesperson Charles Jose said the two countries were inhibited from implementing the details of the agreement until the high court came out with its decision.

The DFA official noted that the EDCA will allow the US to have access to existing Philippine military facilities without establishing their own bases. This would also improve the Philippines’s disaster response capabilities, he added.

Under the EDCA, the US will be allowed to construct bridges or roads that will be owned by the Philippines, Jose said.

Jose further explained that a board will be created to review and fine-tune the details and implementation of the agreement on a “per activity basis.”

I wonder who gets ownership of that man-made island when they take it away from the Chinese?

It will be real interesting to see how the court ruling goes....and how China responds to it.

What they are doing it for, the man made islands, is so they can claim all the seabed, from the islands, west northwest back to the mainland of China, If someone tries to put on offshore rig out there, I assume the Chinese will take it out.

International Agreements are, uh, open to interpretation or so the Chinese believe, but only if it favors them. meh

And they were so eager to see the US out of Clark and Subuc Bay.

Funny how times changes the international landscape. Guess they figured they couldn't do it alone and still require the US 'tit'.
