MFA working to realize ASEAN vision

BANGKOK, 19 January 2016 (NNT) – After the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was officially established, it is important for Thailand and the other nine member-states to let the world know how much the AEC is ready to work together.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a reception for all ambassadors to Thailand, as their people's representatives, to recognize the importance of the regional community.

Department of ASEAN Affairs Director-General Chakkrit Seewalee said the most important thing to do is to realize the ASEAN vision of people as the center and the owners of the AEC.

Government agencies have begun meeting with civil society groups to continuously develop this relationship to truly reflect the public's interests.

And so to that end, Thailand's prosecutor has recently charged the local unit of Philip Morris International of under-reporting the value of imported cigarettes imported by Philip Morris Thailand from the Philippines in 2006-2007. This was despite the fact that in 2011, the Thai government lost the tobacco case that Manila lodged before the WTO in behalf of the Philippine unit of cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris. In its ruling, the WTO agreed that Thailand slapped discriminatory taxes on cigarettes imported from the Philippines.

It appears that current Thai government wants the world to know that Thailand is the Hub of the AEC.

How nice, more news from the La La La country. Wondering in which century they will allow the free movement of ASEAN citizen within their region; my business is dying because I cannot hire ASEAN staff while the local yocals are either unwilling to work or are absolutely useless.

A real beauty on an application form lately: Question was "next of kin", Answer was "tonik water" as if I wanted to know what mixer gin would go with. Applicant stated "fluent" in written and spoken English - oh well!

so for Thailand to fulfil its commitment to this perfect world, we can expect to see another cute little cartoon of little people in ASEAN national costumes bowing and wai-ing . The production of ASEAN flags will also be stepped up so that every school has one.
