DWR promotes proper groundwater use during drought

BANGKOK, 20 January 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is promoting the proper methods of using groundwater as a substitute water source during droughts.

The DWR Director-General Suphot Tovichakchaikul has revealed that DWR officials have been dispatched to drought hit areas to communicate with the local public on the proper practice of groundwater usage, providing details on the adequate amount depending on each location.

Officials will determine the usable amount of groundwater, and place signs notifying the safe level of water usage along with consequences of overuse, that may result in the lack of groundwater for a period of time, as well as supporting the construction of simple water towers.

The affected public are encouraged to constantly draw water from wells at small amount and conserve it for later, as water reserves in 2016 are expected to be even lower than in 2015.

Fourteen provinces that have declared drought disasters in their areas are Phitsanulok, Chiang Rai, Maha Sarakham, Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Phanom, Uttaradit, Phayao, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Phichit, Khon Kaen, Roi Et, and Surin.

No plans to activate the Royal Rainmaking air force with its planes and rockets?

Last year the Northern Royal Rainmaking Center allegedly launched more than 1,800 rainmaking operations with a success rate of 93% with 209 rainy days recorded in 15 provinces. The rain-making centres in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Sawan alone conducted 642 cloud-seeding flights for 40 days since June 29 causing widespread rains estimated at 1,204 million cubic metres.

Forget posting signs and digging wells.

Be careful some wells may be poisoned by fallout/runoff of agricultural poisons.

last years the fish in my pond with runoff water died.

Have possible skin problems. Pointing fingers I find too dangerous.
