O Marriage Extension - Translation necessary for CM Immigration?

Before I front up to Chiangmai Immigration for my annual "O" Marriage visa extension, I go to the trouble and expense of obtaining an accredited Thai translation of my Australian Embassy stamped statutory declaration relating to my monthly income. I've done this because I was told to do it by an Immigration Officer for my very first 12 month extension, so I've done it every year since.

However I have been told a couple of times recently that this is not necessary - the statement in English is quite acceptable to them.

What are others' experiences here? Am I wasting my time and money?
