When some Thais start to treat their as they're real children

Living in Thailand, I'm quite sure that you've heard about 'Luk Thep', a Thai craze to take care of angelic dolls as if they're one of their family member. Currently, some Thais feed them, bring them to shopping mall or even pay for them an extra seat while traveling overseas.

It's believed that Luk Thep will bring them fortune since these dolls were blessed by magic.

I just heard of that after reading some articles like this one http://www.eliteplusmagazine.com/home/content/158/8

For me, it's so unbelievable.

I can't imagine some people living in this era can become such irrational.

We were taught to respect in each individual as well as their belief.

But I would say that this went far more across the line.

I'm just wondering what others especially expats like me would think when hearing this kind of trend really happens here.

Gary Dahl became a Millionaire in the mid 70's with the pet rock idea. He wasn't a Thai, and the customers were not Thai's, unbelievably (and disappointingly for ThaiVisa members) they were Farangs 1.5 million were sold @ 4 USD each

Wish I could come up with an idea like this, this Doll idea is just another one of the craze items that will net the creators Millions and Millions of Baht. Good luck to them.

Spot on! I'd completely forgotten about those stone things.

Americans rioted for the right to buy a dolly !

Be careful where criticism is directed.

But - Americans didn't believe they were alive or supernatural. They were jokes or cute things for fun.

This is creepy when people believe those dolls are actually inhabited by a former deceased baby.

I'll accept they treat their dolls as real children when they start shipping them off to grandma to take care of.

Nice one.

I'll be waiting to read about some foreigner taking out adoption papers.

Maybe I should start a babysitting service for these dolls. It could be the easiest job in the world. Don't have to feed them, change any diapers, scold them when they misbehave. etc. Would probably need a work permit though.

I saw this for the first time at Pattaya Railway Station a couple of weeks ago. Thai lady clinging to doll with Western man in tow. The doll was getting more attention than her partner.

I suppose it is similar to the way Western women over 40 (sweeping generalisation I know) love their cats more than their partners.

Do you actually know any Thais who think this way? I don't.

Usual bashing here by people who believe themselves superior.

One of wifey's friends does. She is an incredibly hard working woman, runs a hotel and also landscape gardening business. Great fun to be with but this last year has carried this doll around everywhere she goes. She talks to it and really does seem to believe it has some sort of spirit.

The first I heard of this was when BBC News was reporting how either Bangkok Airways or Thai Airways were considering charging anyone bringing them on a flight a child fare as it was becoming so common.

I haven't really seen anyone carrying a doll around.

Nor have I seen any posting photos on LINE or social media of them.

No more stupid than believing in god which is insanely stupid to start with but "accepted" I mean why not believe anything then fight for your right to have it declared "untouchable"

What's not to love about a cat? They are independent and certainly less demanding than many human adults.

I was skeptical at first.....Then I bought one. Things were going great. Started spending money however and bought a truck and built a house. Then things started getting creepy. Card games and pretty fast everything vanished, including the doll. I got another one soon after and it seems to be a better model......

Youve got a faulty one there, need to take it back for a full refund or just decapitate it stick its head on a spike outside your house to warn off others
