Lord Lucan, accused killer aristocrat, declared dead after 4 decades
By Don Melvin, CNN

London (CNN)The disappearance in 1974 of Lord Lucan, just after he is believed to have killed his children's nanny by mistake, remains one of Britain's most enduring criminal mysteries

Speculation about Lucan is on a level with that in the United States over labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, who vanished the following year.

Both were well-known personalities. Both disappeared suddenly, without a trace. And in each case, the lack of a confirmed sighting in the decades since led to endless theorizing over what really happened.

Declared dead? Looks like he won.

He was never going to lose. The British Establishment has a long history of whitewashing over each other's proclivities, which have been beaten into them during their years at public school.

The tragic story of the Lucan murder mystery is utterly

fascinating. It surprises me that it has never been made

(to the best of my knowledge) into a movie. It certainly

has all of the ingredients necessary to be a huge screen

success.

I can think of a number of modern actors and actresses

who would be excellent in some of the prime and cameo

roles.

One would hope that his son and heir would do the decent thing and let the title die with him. Unfortunately, doing the decent thing has never come naturally to the British Aristocracy.

How many members of the "British Aristocracy" have you met?

I had the privilege of meeting Princess Diana in Sarajevo. She's the only royal I've met, but I've met really a lot of SAS people in Pattaya.

It was made into a tv movie with Rory Kinnear playing Lucan, a great production.

After the favourable finding last week--- I fully expect a letter from Lord Lucan hand delivered from the Ecuadorian embassy---asking if its alight to come out now...........................coffee1.gif

Years ago (obviously), when I still owned a flat south of the river Thames, the late Princess used to work out at the same gym I did which happened to be across the road from my place. She was always flanked by at least one security person, but yet remained very approachable. I had the pleasure of chatting with her on several occasions, and found her to be utterly delightful. Other than a few VERY minor Royals, she was the only royal person I ever met.

If others followed her lead, their reputation would be vastly improved......

Of course, many of my colleagues have also been fairly successful in not finding Lord Lucan. But I have successfully not found him in more exotic spots than anybody else.”
