BANGKOK — A university gardener is in custody on suspicion for killing a fellow employee on the Rangsit campus of Thammasat University this morning.

Police said Somnuek Kaewtham, 55, opened fire and killed an administrative official at around 10am after a heated argument, then fled the scene. The shooting in front of numerous bystanders just outside the Rector’s Office was described by a university administrator as “unprecedented.”

Another day, another loss of face, no matter at university or anywhere else, the killazzz don't give a damn.....

Parents take your kids out of those so called high level "education centers", the institutes where certain random KILLAZ go berserk any time.

Secateurs are the usual 'weapon of choice' for gardeners. The plants at Rangsit must be Darwin's worst nightmare if guns are needed to prune.

"Asked why a gardener would carry a revolver on his duty, Chanan said the university has a no-firearms policy, and he was not aware why Somnuek was packing heat."

The assistant rector really said that?

In other words, what face is there to save..........

Okay, students, class is over, if you wanna learn something, google it, 'cause those learning institutes are becoming dangerous places where random people, especially at the top or among students could "soon" go berserk any random time.....

A university gardener is in custody on suspicion for killing a fellow employee !!The shooting in front of numerous bystanders just outside the Rector’s Office. Why is this shooting suspicious? Classic Thai reporting..clap2.gif clap2.gif

I don't think outrageous murder and shooting of innocent people in Thammasat University is entirely 'unprecedented', unfortunately.

And I don't think the outrageous murder and shooting of innocent people BY the political colour we associate with Thammasat is unprecedented either. In fact it is pretty normal from what I have seen.

One is now and one is 40 years ago when Thailand was a very different place. Where is your outrage for the 30 people recently murdered ?.

here today gone tomorrow, it seems all over that life is just being snapped out in an instance and so becoming the norm,

disassociation from society of what is acceptable is becoming thinner and thinner.

RIP green fingers.

No it's not they are just following the USA example only they have to try harder usually there multiple people get killed.

In Thailand too many people have guns.. just like in the USA. It only takes a crazy person and you get something like this.

"Packing heat"! Must be a fan of old James Cagney movies.

....it seems that this 'mentality' is prevalent.....

....anything that one does not agree with.....'must be eliminated'......

...my !@#$%^&* wife once told me: "If anybody makes me angry, I will not stop until I get them back"....

...I thought she was just bluffing.......

...I learned better......

...it is scary.....

this is true I have observed several instances where a Thai will go to any lengths to get 'revenge' and save face and, often, and argument is not simply an argument in Thailand it's a 'p***ing contest' and often they will stop at NOTHING to get even!

I saw a Thai upset at a farang once and did not blink an eyelid at reporting him to the Police, Immigration and more. In most countries this Thai would be viewed as a stool pigeon and worse but here it's 'normal'. Here the guy loses his life but the emotions are the same - you 'slighted my honour' and deserve to die.

Behind every Thai smile is an angry Thai and I try to remember that

Gardeners carrying guns on Uni campus , another reason the enlightened one should ban guns except for police in LOS.

I don't want to contemplate saying what might happen next, the man up top needsto addess this problem and call in all hand guns. Dream Dream Dream.wai2.gif

He was upset because the man spoke bad about his work, causing him to lose face.Something which cannot happen here.

True, But he was not carrying the gun when they first started to argue. He would have had to go to his car or locker to get the gun.

Then come back to kill him. So he did have a few minutes to think about what he was going to do.

EnglishJohn you are completely wrong suggesting thammasat is particularly red.

I'm a TU student at rangsit and have met very few red supporters.

There was a lot of PDRC support during the shutdown, which makes sense since most students come from the middle class.

But by far the majority attitude is apathy/"both govts suck". The same as at most universities I assume.

Where the hell did you get that? The article says:

"Their dispute turned fatal today when Somnuek and Amnart got into an argument, and Somnuek abruptly pulled out a revolver and shot Amnart, Kemphat said.

You keep running your mouth off about the Redshirts killing 30 people recently but constantly refuse to give us the details. The only times I read of these so-called killings is in your childish rants.

Where are the gun lobby apologists to tell us that the administrator is at fault - if all office workers at Thammasat would carry assault rifles to work this could never happen.....

Suggesting that gardeners should be "urged" to not carry guns at work is obviously violating his rights.....
