Buying a 'wet' car battery.

Featured Replies

Need to get a new car battery.

I believe that wet ones are better than Maintenance Free ones in Thailand (due to climate)

I would prefer a battery shop along the road compared to B0Quik or someplace, as I believe they are better value.

I wouldn't know a wet battery if it hit me in the head and asked me to go swimming.

Is there a term they use here to ensure that I get a Wet Battery and not a MF one?

Cheers.

I just bought a new battery.

The originally supplied (with Mazda 2) had become weak after 4-1/2 years.

The normal (refillable) batteries are very usual here.

Even the original part was a refillable one.

The new batteries are stored dry in their cartons.

If you buy one they will fill it up and charge it (some half hour wait or so).

Typical look of a refillable type like this from a popular brand:

Easily distinguished by the (red) screw caps.

Also in Thailand the maintenance free show a "MF" somewhere on the product label.

Just tell them you don't want "MF" but "normal" ("tammada" in Thai).

Fantastic. thanks. :)

Get a GS Hybrid, best by far and wet, top up weekly and mine last years, forget any of the maintenance free ones here.

Battery longevity depends on the type of usage it has to deal with daily. How come my Boliden lasted 50% longer than two Toyota wet ones..?

You probably never topped them up, and how much was the boliden? GS hybrid 2600 and lasted over 6 years not once but in 3 different vehicles/different batteries.

Most new Cars have M.F as standard, folks dont want those Cheapoes any more except on commercials Dirty Fingers, how common , messing about with engines n things when your retired n rich. .Dear me you will be washing them next.cheesy.gif

Wow ... another thread discussing how long a battery will last.

Heat is a major factor ...google if you don't believe.

I notice that 'tuner under hood temperature is quite high ... my V-Cross was cooler and the EV much cooler.

Why do you think many lift the bonnet after parking ... they are not 'heads as many suggest.

FB is a good choice too. I have the 85 Ah for 2000 B. If I leave it for 3 months to go to europe , it dies , but it's only 2000 B. Only need to fill her up maybe every 6 months.

Batteries seem to have trouble with hot weather. In Virginia I have had 2 different trucks where the battery lasted over 10 years.

And also had vehicles where the battery would be dead in 2 years.I don't believe if you get A battery where you add water,or maintenance free,it's not going to last A long time in Thailand.

In Thailand? ... I got 5+ years out of the battery in my 520d ... that battery was in the boot though, it would have gone longer but didn't want to take the risk ... you did very well!

Actually I never did anything with it ... was a few years before I realized that it wasn't somewhere under the bonnet ....

Are you saying the price transman paid might have been "inflated".

From Tyre Plus website ..FB Gold. M F.2020 Bht. Bosh @ 2500 and 3550 the last one is for bigger diesels.

Look at ... batterybbdeliver ... they have a big selection. Think their prices include taking your battery.in part exchange ... same as many other companies do.

My Boliden was bought 4.5 years back for me in BKK and sent up country cos I could not find a dealer where I am. Came with the dealers receipt...smile.png

With an auto trans ride the battery is very important, no push starts...sad.png

Hopefully when this 'wet' battery shows signs of failure l will now have a Boliden dealer in town...

Well buddy come out of your man cave and come and visit me and buy one in Sukhothai. laugh.png
