first class service provided by our b/kok embassy in c/mai

today i had the pleasure of receiving by our australian b/kok embassy first class service in c/mai

sure beats a return trip to b/kok to do the same

How lucky you are. As a Brit who has lived outside the UK for four decades I quickly learned that our embassies and consulates basically dislike expats at best and detests us mostly. We get absolutely no service and they would no more think of coming to CM than fly to the moon. So be grateful for being and Australian.

This isn't entirely true. As a fellow Brit I completely agree with the fact that our embassies and consulates appear to dislike/detest expats but our ambassadorial staff do tend to get out once a year or so and mix with the hoi polloi in the provinces. They have to, not for the individuals but for the business interests that they are sniffing around to protect. Our embassies love businesses they just hate people.

Exactly - you Aussies are very lucky to have such a service - along with the Yanks and probably others.

The Brits do have an Embassy, but these days that's about all they (the Brits) really know about the place - as the embassy reps are rarely seen or heard of. Too, much of the embassy work seems now to be done by others - or even necessitates trying to contact relevant government offices back in Little Britain. (Used to be known as Great Britain).

Maybe in a few years the whole building with be outsourced to another over-populated country.......

It is a useful service, one I've never been able to use though due to timing. Many years ago you could do visas and passports at the CM Consulate, that was a far better service unfortunately scrapped for whatever bureaucratic reason.

Being as there is not that many Ozzies here that need them at least once a year it is a great service.

In defense of the Brits. their conciliate here in Chiang Mai has been working with the Chiang Mai immigration and come up with a few ideas to stream line the immigration service.

They are not in existence yet but they are very sensible alternatives to the old idea of allow 10 out of up to 50 a day to make appointments on line.

Admittedly not much but better than nothing particularly if they implement them.

from memory the c/m consulate closed in 2002, perhaps their service was better,but 14 yrs have rolled on and times have changed,the present set up 2015/16 are doing a great job under a tighter budget given to them. ,pay a visit and the bells will ring u a nice tune
