Hi everyone,

I plan to come next month to Thailand with one way ticket and no visa.

Before boarding, i'll make sure first i got an onward flight ticket to either Laos or Vietnam.

I'm french national so i should get a 30 day exempt on arrival and i also heard that this 30 days exempt could be extend to either 7 days or 30 days for 1900 Bath. Please, correct me if i'm wrong.

During my stay, i will apply for a work permit as i already found an employer in Bangkok. But i really don't know how long the process will last.

Im' not on budget but i try to make the move as cheap as possible

So should i take a single entry tourist visa here ( knowing that Monaco required return ticket ) or could it be enough time to apply work permit during my stay without visa?

May be i should mention that this is not my first time in thailand, and last year i was on student visa without any issues.

Cheers to all.

  • A 30 day visa exempt entry can only be extended for 30 days (no 7 day).

If you want to work and get a work permit you will need a non 'B' visa (unless married). You can get the from your home country or from a Thai embassy/consulate in a neighbouring country or apply to covert your visa exempt entry in Bangkok. Conversions need at leat 15 days left of your current stay.

I don't think you will need a return ticket to get the tourist visa. A one way ticket to any nearby country should be accepted.

Once the work permit is applied for and a approval letter for is issued by the Labor Ministry you can get a single entry non-b visa at a nearby embassy or consulate. After you have the non-b visa they will issue the work permit.

Listen to udon not me, however if you are granted a setv with only showing entry INTO thailand then that's all you need. Every consulate is different. Some require an outbound ticket some do not.

off topic but you say your coming with limited funds. All the plans you talk about require money and always a plan B. With the new overstay laws coming in I hope everyone has an exit plan. All that is not to sound negative

I think he said in the OP that he wasn't on a budget, just didn't want to spend more than he had to.

Missed the NOT.

However I think the advice is more significant now with future overstay rules. Thinking many in past have got into a bind 're overstay because they did not have back up finance. Young and old.

Thanks to all for your advices. Very nice.

I call my airline company this morning and no problem on boarding as long as i got an onward ticket within the 30 days exempt. I'll do my paperwork in Thailand.

One way ticket with Finnair for 287 euros, that's kind of cool to.

Thanks to all.
