EUROPE -- It is one of the most disturbing aspects of the migrant crisis – the fate of some 10,000 unaccompanied child refugees thought to have gone missing in Europe.

The EU’s law enforcement agency, Europol, first raised the alarm.

Those on the frontline, like the Serbian-based NGO ATINA, know only too well the plight of some youngsters.

“They didn’t have the money to pay for the trip so in some way they promised smugglers that they will pay when they reach the destination countries,” said Jelena Hrnjak of ATINA.

“This means that they are in a kind of a debt. They are obliged to return this debt and nobody knows what they will have to do when they reach the countries where they want to be.”

The fear is that criminal networks are now actively targeting the most vulnerable in countries where they thought they would find sanctuary – with children being exploited, sexually or otherwise.

These same animals who are abusing refugee children...will one day be running amuck throughout Europe...

The issue was first raised by Europol:

I don't think they are an NGO.

10000 children running around by themselves without any kind of intervention or supervision? Hard to believe Europol, come with some evidence.

I don't think that Europol is very interested in the liberal/conservative angle of this. I don't think they would post that without evidence, but it might be in their interest to not show the evidence.

Europol is probably more interested in issues related to child sexual abuse, trafficking of children and cross-border criminal activity.

It's what always happens with mass-migration. In the 2000s it was Polish and Ukrainian girls being coaxed to Europe with job-offers and ending up on brothels, start of the nineties it was Albanians ending up in Mafia-brothels in Italy. I don't know about total numbers with so many people abusing the situation and registering under up to 20 names and several nationalities, but it would have been no small miracle if things like that were not happening with this totally unorganized mass-influx.
