Hi,

I've just been to penang and have received a 3 month non immigrant o visa. Now I need to get a 1 year marriage visa in Phuket. Can somebody please let me know the following :

- I need to have 400000 baht in a Thai bank account for 2 months before I can apply for the visa is this correct?

- If the above is correct then it's ok to apply for the 1 year marriage visa with only 1 month remaining of the 3 month non immigrant o visa right ?

- Can the money(400000 baht) just be on a normal Thai bank account which I use for other things but on which there will be 400000 baht or more at all times,or must the whole bank account be untouched with only 400000 baht in it?

- What papers must I take with me to the immigration office in Phuket when applying for the 1 year marriage visa?,I have a son who was born in Thailand too.

- Must my Thai wife also go to the immigration office when I apply for it?

Sorry for the many questions, the rules are sometimes changing so I just want to make sure that I've got the right information, thanks,

regards .Roger

A rough guide when applying for your 12 month extension. It is not a visa.

1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

If income from outside Thailand: Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

If Income from Thailand: Statements showing Income Tax receipts.

Marriage Certificate. (Kor Ror 3)

Marriage Registry entry. (Kor Ror 2)

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

One or two witnesses may be required.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

Yes, you can use it as a normal account. Just never fall below the minimum of 400k. Always leave enough for a surprise like ATM card fee etc.

And after you have the passport with the stamp you can use (up) the money freely until 3 months before next application (fill up).

- Must my Thai wife also go to the immigration office when I apply for it?

Absolutely,

  1. 400k in the bank for two months or 40k average monthly income.

  2. Yes. Apply at any time during the last 30 days of your permission to stay.

  3. It can be a regular savings account and you can deposits and withdrawals at any time as long as the balance is not less than 400k during the two months prior to the application.

  4. When submitting the application for extension, bring your passport, copy of ID page of the passport and the pages with the visa and arrival stamp. Copy of departure cards, front and back. Your wife must accompany you with her house registration book and ID card and copies of them. Copy of child's birth certificate is not required but some immigration offices ask for it anyway; bring at long and give it if asked for.

  5. Yes, your wife must go with you and she will be interviewed by the immigration officer.

"Eclipse" has provided you with a good standard list however, the Phuket Immigration office are known to have "peculiarities" of their own, one of which relates to the need to provide evidence of your address using Phuket's version of the TM30.

I would suggest you visit the office and ask specifically what their requirements are for an "extension of stay" based on marriage well in advance of actually making the application.
