BANGKOK: -- Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s only son, Panthongtae, quietly reported to the Department of Special Investigation on Tuesday – two days ahead of schedule – to testify as a witness in an alleged money laundering case.

DSI deputy director-general Pol Lt-Col Somboon Sarasit said Thursday that Panthongtae was questioned as a witness in a case about 10 million baht was transferred to his account by the Krung Thai Bank.

Pol Lty-Col Somboon is in charge of investigating alleged money laundering regarding a huge amount of loan was extended to Krisdamahanakhon group by Krung Thai Bank.

As for another witness in the same case, Mrs Kanchana Honghern, personal secretary to Khunying Potchamarn Na Pompetch, the DSI vice chief said that the woman had asked to postpone her meeting with the DSI officials scheduled on Thursday because she was engaged in other business.

About 200 witnesses have so far been interrogated by the DSI.

Tell her to carefully insert her other business up her derrière, get said appendage down to the station to answer questions or face arrest.

Poor Oak going to the DSI quietly and without the fanfare, support and media attention Auntie YL gets !

What, if anything, can be read into this ?

I think she means: "I'm rich and so I can do what I want. I'll go and meet you when I am ever free to do so. At the moment, my appointment book is full for many months. I'll let you know, if a free moment arises."

No change from the day of Tarit when, depending on who and what was involved, interviews were arranged on a ' whenever you're free ' basis.

Always a chance too, as happened, witnesses took the warning they would be interviewed as the cue to visit foreign climes.

Strange days indeed , how can you have money laundering with a loan from the bank, unless the bank has lodged a complaint with the DSI what does it have to do with the DSI, or is this another example of a dictatorship having access to everybody's business transactions , Prayut - O is a worry, expats companies could be next, then there will be a lot a baying . ....................................coffee1.gif

Let us hope he can be convicted ahead of schedule too. About time these parasites were removed from the body politic.

Read the article he was called as a witness not a suspect, so has 200 others including yellow shirts. Sorry to burst your colour coded bubble.

Do your home country treat witnesses that way?

If they are suspected of helping cover up the crime, I'd say yes.

In most countries in the world, people attend as per the instruction from the court or whatever, for a simple but extremely important reason, respect for the law and for the processes of the law, and IMHO that's how it should be.

What sort of democracy is Thailand , its laughable

what has democracy to do with a criminal investigation?

Without the rule of law a country cannot be called a democracy. Having said that Thailand is currently being run by a bunch invoking a magical instrument named Article 44 under which sweeping powers are universally and selectively applied.

"...money laundering...what does it have to do with the DSI..."

I think you'll find that money laundering is an area that the DSI do have an interest in.

"...under which sweeping powers are universally and selectively applied."

Universally or selectively applied? Make up your mind, you can't have it both ways.

I hope the police were a bit more diligent at checking the suspect's ID than were the university examination invigilators.

I agree completely with your post, hope you aren't suggesting it was any better before though.

Yes appalling when a Shin is questioned about a mere 10 million baht.

The Krungthai fraud has already jailed some of the perps after conviction. But they weren't Shins so not above the law.

How undemocratic to pursue all the possible crooks involved.

I agree that his lack of knowledge about the case is hilarious. Or do you think that a large chunk of the stolen money being paid into his account implies that he was merely an observer in another Shinawatra theft from the Thai people?

Dear me, and he wasn't even elected to absolve his criminality.

Do try to pay attention, halloween. Being elected doesn't absolve anyone from their crimes. But they do become accountable.

You know, totally unlike the junta who have not been elected, is not accountable to anyone and to boot have given themselves the mother of all amnesties.

And despite your rather sad attempts at obfuscation this guy was called as a witness not an accused. What you or I think about money allegedly being paid into his account has got nothing to do with it.

Again; do try to pay attention, halloween.
