BANGKOK, 4 March 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will visit Udon Thani province in the middle of this month to observe the drought situation.

According to Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda, the Prime Minister will visit Udon Thani on March 18. He is also scheduled to chair a meeting of the joint public-private committee to be briefed on the water crisis, before traveling to the Northeast.

The Office of the Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, decides the locations that Gen Prayut will visit during his trip to address the ongoing problem. The Interior Minister has insisted that the premier’s trip was not politically motivated.

Gen Prayut expressed concerns over the drought crisis. He urged everyone to use water wisely, as water reserves are in decline. The premier cited the need for farmers to adapt to the current climate and said they should accept any consequences of attempting to cultivate rice out of season.

To prevent future water shortages, Gen Prayut instructed relevant agencies to dredge waterways to boost storage capacity when the rainy season arrives.

I bet he doesn't show up in this little purple silk outfit... whistling.gif

just as an aside, it is so reassuring to read, ...

The Interior Minister has insisted that the premier’s trip was not politically motivated.

and to know that he won't have to break up his own Isaan meeting as a "political gathering of 5 or more people" coffee1.gif

As if his visit will make a damned difference to the lack of water. Just a photo op showing the public how really concerned he is. BS politics.

To be fair, every PM, whether elected or self selected, would do this kind of thing.

The question is, can he do it without saying something callous or condescending. My money is on "no".

I too wonder what he will do / say as I presume he knows or has been warned Udon Thani is a very red area although it's well hidden these days.

During the last administration there was something of a battle with Khon Kaen to prove which province was the reddest.

I think some of the welcoming smiles will be as false as his.

I would argue it's not well hidden at all the people of Udon are very clear about their feelings and who they love and the junta is certainly not on that list
