Chonburi's 'Active Beach' policies to serve as role model for sustainable tourism

CHONBURI, 4 March 2016 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn says the new “Active Beach” policies in Chonburi Province will serve as a model for other provinces in maintaining a sustainable tourism industry.

Gen Tanasak along with the Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, delivered a policy address to the committee meeting on tourism development in the eastern region, while inspecting Pattaya beach to observe the management of jet ski and assistance services for tourists. The officials also observed the progress of the new bike path along the beach under the Sports Tourism Destination policy.

Gen Tanasak remarked that tourism in the area is on the rise with increased revenue being gained from the increase in the number of tourists. However, most tourists are still concentrated in Chonburi Province, so the government aims to further develop tourism in the area by creating new tourist attractions and accelerating development of major projects.

He added that the successful cooperation of Chonburi and the eastern provinces as a tourism cluster, serves as a model for tourism development in other clusters in the country. The government will support each cluster’s uniqueness and culture as well as facilitate the ease of transportation between provinces.

Pattaya has been consistently sustainable. Beach road is quite active with all kind of activities. OF course jet ski is menace, but lets ignore some negatives.

Jetskis are probably the longest running officially tolerated scam in Thailand and are even covered in foreign documentaries as legalised theft spoiling holidays.

Good to see another province studying their implementation. They will be able to expand the foreign outrage and further cement Thailand's reputation. Better that a few should profit so the many can suffer the stigma.

What exactly would the positives be?

There must be another Chonburi that he is referring too. I wonder if this person has ever wondered about on foot in Pattaya to see the real world. Rats, trash, washed out beach areas, gullies, dopers, prostitutes, scammers, more trash, homeless, more scammers, road congestion, pollution, more trash, more scammers, traffic hazards, broken and unsafe sidewalks, illegal businesses encroaching on public sidewalks and roadways is what he would see without the rose colored glasses.

revenue, revenue and more revenue BS.

The hiso ministers are inspecting what? Are they undercover or are they walking around with noses up and surrounded by cameras?

Interview some pre-instructed folks?

get real and build the f... swimming pools.

Deputy Prime Minister, have you actually been to these places? Know anything of the jet ski scams continually going on? Taxis not using meters? Rubbish everywhere? Rules and regulations being selectively applied (if at all)? And the list goes on and on and on.....................ad infinitum ad nauseam.

It seems that many authoritative persons love to talk but hardly ever do the walk (take action)?

Someone must be making a fortune out of selling rose coloured spectacles in Thailand gigglem.gif

The trash problem, Thai spicy soups, etc spilled on the sidewalks, plastic plates, bowls, some with food still them, left for who knows who to pick up and put in trash bins is a real eyesore for tourists, not to mention the health problem. Then, there's the ladyboys grabbing and menacing tourists. Deal with those two major problems and Pattaya will look much better. Fine the crap out of offenders if you have too. No money, no pay, they say, then put them to work cleaning up the beaches. Community service projects. All you need is a few cops to watch over them.
