Stacks of cash, suicide note with instructions found next to body of American, 26, in Phuket hotel

Darawan Naknakhon

PHUKET: Police have little reason to suspect foul play in an apparent suicide of a 26-year-old American found in a Patong hotel room yesterday (March 5) alongside three stacks of cash totaling about B32,800, with an apparent suicide note containing instructions of what to do with the money.

The victim, identified by a passport found in the room, was named as Mr Nathan House, 26, of the US.

An apparent suicide note found in the room contained clear instructions for how to use the cash, the biggest chunk asked to be given to the "police and/or hospital to cover the cost of their investigation if any".

Though it seems like a clear cut case of suicide, The Phuket News highlights two oddities that should be noted in the investigation, if any, as follows:

That is very very sad, he must have been a kind person to think about other who would find him and to compensate , i hope the next chapter is better for his spirit

If the investigators had gone to his website they'd see that he was initially planning to live in Europe for a year or two. That would explain the Euros.

Sad story. He seemed from the website to be a kind and thoughtful person.

He didn't say a single word about his family or any person close to him in the entire letter?

Just that theres 'no foul play' involved and how to 'split up' the cash.

Sounds legit.

So young to actually go through with this, & unless there was some underlying terminal illness what a waste of life, taking ones own life cannot be an easy thing to do, thinking it is but actually going through with it is something else, R.I.P young man, it is a shame you didn't have someone to talk you out of it.

yet not the person to care about his devastated family seen commenting on his post. If there is really nothing after life as he points out, why not tough it out a bit for them and then you'll forget about it in death. These kind of suicides are just like drunk driving yet one gets rips the other one gets angry pitch forks.

So young to commit suicide - may he now rest in peace ...

feel sorry for the young man, but he seemed to know what he was doing and freely chose his way out. I have to respect him for that. whatever his reason, he went out his way!

I wish this man will be given respect to rest in peace without too much speculations by us ho did not know him personally. RIP young man wherever that may be.

Just read all what he had to say...

He was a very bright young man,......, but troubled for sure..

So so sad he took his,life......far too young ......

Hope he is at peace......

$1,000 is not stacks of cash

This young fellow had everything planned out in a nice way to go for not only himself but everyone else. The implication of his stack of cash surely refers to that he laid out his stacks of cash for each of his recipients stipulated in his will. He laid out the cash in piles and amounts to be distributed without causing confusion and not causing anyone any trouble. Lets hope the police do the right thing and underestimate the cost of their troubles and distribute the monies in fair and balanced way as he would have wanted...

The American authorities need to check that the note is not a forgery. It seems a little too convenient to leave money to the police

Posters probably should read this person's website before commenting. Particularly the "Right To Die" section.

Bloody hell, no wonder he topped himself, what a terrible life experience he had.... Poor bugger, lets hope he comes back to a better one despite him not believing in any of that...

Thank you for this incredible link. I never thought reading one day lines as those one about suicide!

RIP young man.

A state system out of control with prescription drugs and authoritarian involuntary detention. Clearly the wrong decisions were made by all parties involved. He seems like a very intelligent young man who had a lot to offer. RIP.

His blog is a painfully compelling and sobering read.

A terrible shame that such an intelligent, thoughtful and sensitive young man was unable to emerge from these tragic circumstances.

Godspeed Nathan.

$1,000 is not stacks of cash

It could be in the mind of a person that was unable to escape from extreme poverty.

Such a gifted engineer and ..................ended his life with precision, but for what reason is still an enigma. One life by the chance in this universe was given to him like to all of us. Wasted. Really sad.
