MAASTRICHT: -- A long lost painting by Dutch artist Rembrandt appears to have been found. This is one of five paintings depicting the five senses.

It’s called The Fainted Patient (Smell) and shows someone helping a patient regain consciousness by helping him sniff a cloth of ammonia.

The painting was discovered in the US state of New Jersey when a private collector brought it to an auction.

Rembrandt painted “the smell” when he was 18 or 19 years old. Rembrandt signed this painting with RHF, which was his earliest signature, and the initials stand for Rembrandt Harmenz Fecit.

“The Smell” will be displayed at the annual art and antique auction TEFAF in Maastricht between March 11-18.
