Swiss man found dead in Pattaya, police rule out foul play

PATTAYA: A retired Swiss banker went to the toilet and fell down dead, said his wife who was sleeping outside in their Pattaya resort room.

Police and foundation workers rushed to the BB House resort off beach road in soi Khlong Dong Tan, Nong Preu, 5am today, Sunday, and found 71 year old Charles Rene Castella sprawled face up next to the toilet with his underpants around his knees.

No foul play is suspected in the case. The dead man, a frequent visitor to Thailand,was taking medication for a heart condition and there were no suspicious marks on the body. Police found a condom and a Kamagra in the man's wallet.

Mr Castella's wife, 43 year old Buriram native La-ong Saokheha told investigating officer of the Pattaya police Kittipong Srichamnan that she had known her husband for four years. He was a regular visitor to Thailand usually staying for three months at a time before returning to his home country where he had worked in a bank though he was now retired. They often went to the resort on his holidays.

He was due to return to Switzerland on Wednesday. La-ong said her husband had woken and had started coughing. Mr Castella, a smoker, said it was as a result of trying to give up the habit for a few days. He entered the toilet and emerged to sit outside for a while but was in discomfort. Going into the toilet again, La-Ong said he must have fallen down. She rushed in to find him lying on the floor and unresponsive. She left to seek help but it was too late.

Police suspect Mr Castella was suffering from a heart condition and on entering the toilet fell and died while relieving himself. The body was sent for autopsy and the Swiss embassy has been informed

I was many a year back having a pint or two with a group of friends in our local and one of the crowd just dropped dead. He was the same age as this Swiss fellow and also suffered from heart disease.

I find the explanation totally plausible especially as he was found with his pants around his knees and the re[ports of discomfort,sounds like a classic heart attack scenario especially when you look at the quote below!!

Police found a condom and a Kamagra in the man's wallet.

It seems as the onset of death was quick, not such a bad way to go really.

This whole story is a non event. A seventy one year old with heart problems died with no suspicious circumstances. But they went through his wallet and reported the condom and the kamagra, and showed a picture of his dead body.

Why?

Quick end for the poor guy, but a lot of heartache and problems for friends and family back in Switzerland.

yeah but so often the guy is in the bathroom or had allegedly just gotten up to go to the bathroom, and his Girlfriend or wife is in the other room. Granted many people's first reaction to pain or distress is to maybe relieve oneself to relieve internal pressure, splash some cold water on their face, maybe feeling nauseous and tried to get to the toilet or sink to vomit.
