March 15, 201610 yr I am guessing that "well respected" place you were drinking may not be as "well respected" as you claim. I don't doubt your story.... But I have to say I believe this would be unlikely if it was actually a decent establishment.
March 15, 201610 yr Regular Thai women call bar girls "Lady Bah" - meaning "bad lady" In the Thai language the adjective often follows the noun. I therefore suggest to you that "lady bar" is a simple reversal of "bar lady". The term, lady bar, is nothing more than a direct translation of the Thai term, pooying bar. I have never heard the Thais use bar lady (bar pooying), please explain it to me in Thai. Its similiar to the term, sao sewen, for the young girls working in 7-11. I'm talking about when Thais speak English (or try to speak English). I too have never heard a Thai talk about a 'bar lady', but like canathai8 I have heard them say 'lady bar' (meaning a person, not a place). Thais will also sometimes use 'bar beer' where we would say 'beer bar'.

To my mind, 'decent' means you're more likely to get kicked out than kicked in if you are too drunk... SC
