This will never change in Thailand!

I am guessing that "well respected" place you were drinking may not be as "well respected" as you claim. I don't doubt your story.... But I have to say I believe this would be unlikely if it was actually a decent establishment.

Regular Thai women call bar girls "Lady Bah" - meaning "bad lady"

In the Thai language the adjective often follows the noun.

I therefore suggest to you that "lady bar" is a simple reversal of "bar lady".

The term, lady bar, is nothing more than a direct translation of the Thai term, pooying bar.

I have never heard the Thais use bar lady (bar pooying), please explain it to me in Thai.

Its similiar to the term, sao sewen, for the young girls working in 7-11.

I'm talking about when Thais speak English (or try to speak English).

I too have never heard a Thai talk about a 'bar lady', but like canathai8 I have heard them say 'lady bar' (meaning a person, not a place).

Thais will also sometimes use 'bar beer' where we would say 'beer bar'.

I think 'decent' is pretty subjective.

To my mind, 'decent' means you're more likely to get kicked out than kicked in if you are too drunk...
