Not really enough description in this article to jump to conclusions.

Maybe the Mercedes front tyre was flat and he lost control. Maybe the other car hit his after getting a flat tyre.

Look forward to hearing the evidence and if guilty seeing the driver punished accordingly.

Today's high speed cars like this Mercedes with a 585 HP engine are fitted with low profile tire when these tires go flat the car only sinks down about a couple of inches which does effect the steering but not as much as with the high profile tires consequently the steering is not too much effected and with the electronic controlled steering you do not loose control of the car. Looking at the dashcam the idiot must have been travelling at 200KPH.

Years ago there was an attempt made in the US to limit the engine size to a 289 cubic size engine in passenger cars but that never lasted too long. Take the top of the line Ford SUV in the US it has the same engine fitted in a Ford 22-wheeler pulling 40-ton in a passenger vehicle, where is the common sense???? THERE IS NONE.

I would suggest 200kph minimum coupled with extremely low intelligence and either full of booze or drugs. Whatever it is makes no difference - he should spend a few years in the slammer - might do something for his attitude to driving.

Doesn't seem to be any slow traffic in the right hand lane (usually reserved for slow-moving escorted bus convoys, military vehicles, and overloaded pick-ups) nor in the middle lane, so not the usual reason to be under-taking on the usually empty left side lane.

Having owned a high performance car (M3) and done fair number of track days I've noticed the boy racers here haven't the first clue how to handle a car compared to the one's in uk; wrong lines,no appreciation of apexes, unnecessary braking for curves, inability to judge distances or gaps ,all of which simply magnifies the downside of recklessness. This guy is no different and can only go fast in a straight line. I am beginning to think ,in conjunction with other observations ,this is part of a genetic IQ deficiency. Very unPC to say but I noticed this in Africa too.

Leave the IQ out of it, as it seems to happen with people obviously having a low one, and with others supposed to have a high one too, or more.

So by default of other alternative, it might be genetic...

Yes - leave the IQ out of it. The driver did! coffee1.gif

Look at the pictures on the CSI-Site and on the culprits facebook-page. I wouldn't trust someone who is swagging with a 585hp-car and a picture of his speedometer showing 307kph. In a country where the official speed-limit is 120kph by the way.

The National speed limit is 90 kph. Certain roads are posted for higher speeds typically 120 kph.

Clearly a maniac driving at that speed and the reason the Police are delaying prosecution is that the guy is in hospital and may die. Secondly. once the driver does recover, then if he pays enough money as usual he may be let off

I did not know that. How can the National limit be 90 but some Highways are set to 120? I have all the Thai licenses but only drive MotoSai in town on occasion when I rent or borrow. Prefer the push-bike.

amazing thailand

"Jenphop Viraporn, 36, who they point out is still hospitalized for what was described in reports as slight injuries."

You don't even need to click the link to find out that is not true.

The higher speed rated roads are generally Expressways so have no motorcycle traffic, multiple lanes, limited on/off ramps and, usually, barriers.

The National limit is almost universally ignored. I like to cruise at 100 kph, straight up on my clock. I'm retired so don't need to drive fast and get stressed.

One of the disparities I find with Thailand is in cases like this.

If there are supposedly so many guns, so many gun deaths.

In cases like this, why doesnt the family take the compensation money, then at later date, get a "brother" from the extended family to put on a balaclava and shoot the dbag.

If the police are supposed so useless and easily bribe and guns so plentiful, why arent there more revenge killings ?

Agree and I add another point - Thais never (from parents or observation of through formal education) learn to anticipate anything. Many drive like maniacs with zero thought / anticipation of what could happen ahead.

Obvious example, a couple of years back, the Thai lady who could see that all lanes ahead were blocked with numerous cars so she just changed lanes and went full speed ahead into the left lane and smashed at speed into a parked car.

The picture was taken just after the accident manslaughter took place. I saw the aftermath as I was driving into Bangkok on Sunday. The entire highway leading out of Bangkok was closed off because of it. The Mercedes was a few hundred metres up the road from the burnt out remains of the other car, indicating just how fast it must of been going. It was quite a sobering sight. It's all too easy to be a "big man" on an anonymous forum, but if they had have been my family members in the other car, I think I'd be paying a visit to the hospital this maggot is lying in. And not to bring him flowers.

What's with all the sanctimonious drivel here? One of the reasons I like this country is that if you have enough money, you can buy your way out of any sort of trouble.

Huh? So you are going to put yourself or a family member in hospital so you can get some money? Lazy s**t, do some work for your money! coffee1.gif

It is not necessarily low intelligence, it just that even with innate high intelligence the laws of nature remain immutable, garbage in:garbage out. Take an intelligent person and educate them in Thailand and you get young heirs who live with their heads up the wrong orifice. But this condition is certainly not limited to Thailand as can be seen in the graduates of the Harvard Business School.

In the real world, his life would be over even if the police and courts did jack to him legally. He'd be shamed. No one would patronize his business and he'd be in the poor house a shamed and broken man. But this isn't the real world is it?

On the other hand, steal some coconuts and you are in the slammer pronto.. :>

Don't forget the mushroom pickers, they got 30 years or something like that....

Not that old chestnut again.

Might well be the old chestnut, but certainly puts the inequality of what is practices in Thailand very clearly when it comes to the rule of law.

They were never, ever, charged with picking mushrooms, they were charged with illegal logging which (rightly or wrongly) they confessed to.

They spent a total of 1 year and 8 months in jail, not something I would ever want to do and they probably shouldn't have ever been convicted but hey, no problem, you and Alqaholic just keep trotting out the old "30 years for mushroom picking" chestnut if that's what floats your boat.

What he did was reckless endangerment with manslaughter, and the tool was his car.

So adding to his charges he should never be allowed to drive a car again.

If there's no charge on him the family of the victims should use the compensation and hire a hitman to remove this scum from planet earth

and some people want to raise their chidren in this countryfacepalm.gif

After a dozen trips to Thailand and then spending some time studying Buddhism, I get more and more disappointed and amazed at how many Thais don't act in any way along the lines of Buddhism. The country is the wild wild west and getting worse. Gosh Darn it.

Watch the video and see for yourself. He should be charged with vehicular homicide or as they do in West Oz, culpable driving causing death with a mandatory 10 years inside
