Checkpoint police nab 21 taxi drivers, most for poor dress sense

PHUKET: Police have arrested a total of 21 taxi drives at a checkpoint in Patong in the past two days, 19 of whom were fined for being inappropriately dressed.

Patong traffic policeman Ekkarat Plaiduang and Tourist Police Chief Urumporn Koondejsumrit led the checkpoint in front of the Patong Police Station in order to crack down on fixed-price taxi services and ensure that green-plate taxi drivers were dressing appropriately.

“We have been setting up checkpoints randomly, following the policy of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and the national police to crack down on taxi drivers who take advantage of tourists and give the country a bad image,” said Maj Urumporn.

Last year I got a taxi from Don Muang and the whole cab was completely done out in Hello Kitty stuff. They also had fake eyelashes on the front headlights.

Ironically, it has always seemed to me that meter cabs offer a better and safer option to the freelancers in minibus cabs, and the like, and yet, they are getting targeted in this absolute joke of a way.... Unless the cabbies were naked, of course, which would explain it.... Although it would be interesting to hear the cabbies explanation for said nakedness.

My mind was fixed on the attached picture, showing a metered cab, but indeed, your correct about the OP.

However, that said, and for Schmitts and giggles, if you read the OP link, it says 19 of 21 drivers were done for poor fashion sense, whilst the other 2 offences were metered cabs that hadn't turned their meters on

Dress sense? That takes priority over doing their job properly? Hell, half of the Thai male population (and a few female), not to mention a number of the foreign populous, have dubious dress sense.
