I was pleasantly surprised by a Lebanese place down lower Sukhumvit today. I stopped in for a coffee and I'll return for a meal soon.

Bangkok appears to have every kind of restaurant covered.

I'm considering compiling a map of the best of the best of each 'genre' of food.

If we get enough replies that's exactly what I'll do and we can all visit them and die fat and happy.

They don't even have to be the best actually. We could have low-level, mid-level and top tier places.

What's your favourite Italian / Vietnamese / Swedish / Bakery / Steakhouse etc eatery and where is it?

Is there a type of restaurant that you think is missing?

I miss good doner kebab (not from chicken), shoarma (shawarma) with nice salad and garlic sauce. Also i miss good fishfillet (seafish without bones or skin and deepfried).

But try the foodcourt in Central Chidlom, they have great restaurants, also Indonesian food now, good pizza, good lebanese and much more.

It's never really busy there which is great.

I noticed all the prepared food in Central Chidlom the other day. I initially thought that the prices were a bit high at 89 baht per 100 grams but that is only for the premium stuff. Lots of different meat dishes (including lamb). Plenty of other dishes costing from 39 baht per 100 grams IIRC.

In Soi 5 there is a kebab/shawarma place near Foodland. Pretty good for 60 baht.

True that you can get almost any type of food in Bangkok, but it's a fake copy of the actual food from the countries. The tastes and quality are never the same. Thais only know how to cook Thai food, and they cannot learn properly. That's why I only ever eat simple Thai food in Bangkok and I always spend under 200 baht a day. Sometimes, I eat for the whole day for only 100 baht, and I never go hungry. This is one way that I keep my total monthly living costs under 16,000 baht including rent, food and entertainment, and I live very well indeed on that.

This forum truly lives up to it's reputation

I can't tell if half the posts are trolls

I didn't exclude thai food at all, I gave examples of a few kinds of restaurants

Feel free to contribute you're favourite Thai eatery

Are most sukhumvit foreign restaurants not foreign owned?

Ive seen a few foreign chefs as well

What Thai dishes do you get and where from?

I wouldn't mind living like you a few days in the month

You mean in the back of the Topsy supermarket? I never tried that. I'm talking about the 7th floor restaurantfloor/foodcourt. It's not supercheap but good enough for what you get.

Now also Isetan Central World has a high end foodcourt for Japanese, but too expensive i think. And they can't speak english at all.

Foreign restaurants use thai personell which is a problem. They have no idea how to cook it perfect. Even in Sizzlers you can't get a good medium steak but they have other more easyier to cook food which is good. Fuji restaurant brings Japanese dining to a shame.

Cheap foodcourts are not bad at all if you pay 50 baht for a dish and sit at a good table in aircon. But if you like good meat that's hard to find.
