The family is flying back down in a couple of days but we didn't pack my 7 year-old's passports before we drove north. Doesn't have an ID card or anything else either. What alternatives for child ID will Air Asia accept or will they need to come by bus?

Not sure will work but well worth a try: have someonr back home send a clear picture of the child's passport to your phone and show that at check in

Thanks Sheryl. I was thinking the same so have sent scans of both his passports to mums phone and email. I also sent a scan of her passport as well which may be handy to show some 'link' between her Thai ID in her hand and their passports on the smartphone. She will also be getting both boarding passes sent to her phone so it all sounds doable.

I just found out there's an Air Asia Service Center at Tesco Lotus on Sukhumvit (Pattaya) so I will go and ask there.

Usually Thai children in this age do not have a photo ID at all.

So your child having a passport is quite an exception.

A mother who traveled by air last year with a 6 and 8 year old had photocopies of the birth certificates with her.

I don't remember whether anyone cared about it.

I am quite optimistic that photocopies of any kind will do the job.

True but since he does have passports, we have never had to bother with the alternative paperwork before except maybe for one or two very early domestic flights as a nipper. I will include a scan of his birth certificate as once that is printed in colour, it looks like the original.

The girl at AirAsia office wasn't the sharpest individual and couldn't confirm what would be required although she thought that printing out the passports scans may be accepted whereas the images on the smartphone may not.

Use the computer kiosk checkin at the airport. Never asks me for id from me or my travel companions. What happens at the gate entry is the question.

Quite correct no photo ID but many times I see Thais traveling with children show the child's birth certificate

Have person back home scan n send birth cert as well as passport. For a domestic flight I'd be surprised if not sufficient.

I found his BC here so scanned and sent to mum with instruction to print it out before going to the airport. Tickets booked now hurry up and come home!

A picture message of the childs passport or birth certificate will work. I have done this before. You will need to show your phone pic to the check in agent, the ID checker to get to security and the gate agent. It even worked with an adult ID card when my wife's 17 yr old brother went to the airport without his ID card....his dad just took a pic of his ID card and SMS to my wife....worked.
