The Foundation for Tourists Assistance in Pattaya City has donated 70,000 baht and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports helped take care of the medical expenses at 20,000 baht.

Injuries like that are going to cost way more than 90,000 Baht.

What exactly does 'motorcycle was overturned' mean?

As usual with Thai 'reporting', and I use that term very loosely, no details of exactly what happened.

They were driving and the thieves try to take the ladies bag and therefore they lost the control of the bike and the bike overturned it means the bike turned around and they felt down.

Pattaya is fast becoming a hub for muggings.

People being mugged everyday in Bangkok, just that the English press there have bigger fish to report about

Someone I know from Devon England, was recently relieved of his gold chain in Pattaya whilst on the back of a motorbike taxi. The chain was yanked off his neck by a pillion thief coming from the opposite direction then he and driver sped off at great speed. Amazingly, police caught them in action a few minutes later having been purposely on patrols for such occurrences. So be aware, the police are on the ball but can't be everywhere in or around Thailand. I had already informed this Numpty he was a sitting target portraying his chain like a Belisha beakon.

However, this doughnut knew best or so it seemed at the time. Now it's awoke him to how dangerous & dodgy tourist areas really are regarding opportunistic thieves.

So easy to be killed trying to look good or whatever one feels like prancing up and down some street with jewellery swinging off your person as bait for would be assassins pent on doing you harm to steal your personnel belongings.

I would love to wear a gold plated chain with hidden fish hooks all over it disguised as trinkets. I'm sure that would catch a few of them in the act once embedded in these dirty thieving bastards fingers.

Just saying .......,

Which indicates that the press in Bangkok is negligent in it's responsibility to keep the citizenry informed.

Why do Pattaya police only seem to work a day shift which is interesting because bars and clubs don't open until 4pm. And why no show of force from 9-pm - 4-am.

Is this a volunteer country police force?

The situation sure makes a good argument for martial law, and 24 hour a day roving patrols in tourist areas.

Having been in Thailand and Philippines as a tourist (around 78 - 80's) in martial law situations I felt very safe.

Hopefully, the PM giving police powers (and training) to the military is leading in this direction.

Before I get a lot of flack from bleeding heart liberals about Thai's rights, I should say that *I do not give a hoot* about the rights of undesirable elements of Thai society that prey on Thais and/or farangs while doing irreparable damage to the face of Thailand and it's people!

They'll have an arrest very soon, 50,000 Baht Reward is a lot of money to a poor person.

I'm sure that many good citizens will come forward with information so that the policeman they talk to can claim the reward...IgNobel prize for economics for the second year running?

I think its a case of the English press in Bangkok such as Bangkok Post , Nation, Khaosod English Thai PBS etc focusing on National /International issues and don't have the time and space to report every mugging taking place.

The local English speaking press in tourist destinations does however, that why we get every crime ever committed reported along with the cat got stuck up tree'' scoops.

A volunteer country police force would make the Royal Thai Police farce look bad......

Curious to know who these Iran people are.

Influential people demand the attention of three police colonels and five police stations?

My thoughts entirely! When I first saw the headline I thought "Yawn - another day, another tourist robbed/beaten up/harassed " etc etc etc. After all, it's not exactly an out of the ordinary happening in Pattaya, is it? And most of the time it is not even reported as it's not considered newsworthy. But "three police colonels and five police stations?" Someone of some importance methinks!

The TAT (or so) just have been to Iran to promote Thailand as a holiday destination for Iranese quality tourists.

Now they come here (to drive motobike) it shouldn't be in the newspapers that they got mugged in Pattaya (of all places). Can't have that.

So 5 police stations are put at work now. They will arrest him (i guess) soon.

This is how THIS website describes THIS part of the forum: "Pattaya, the seaside playground on Thailand's east coast. Sun baked beaches and the wild nightlife make Pattaya a wonderland by night and day,"

On which alternative reality planet is this 'wonderland?' or are they referring to the 70s true story mass murder movie 'Wonderland' that implicated porn legend John Holmes?

Only ever felt unsafe once in years of bottom-dwelling in BKK and that was when I was talked into going down an alley in Klong Toey after midnight by a beguiling spinner (she was after a fix, and I was advanced enough to know better, but little head, and all that) nothing happened.

BKK is safer than chiang Mai, believe it or not. Pattaya is just a war zone, without an actual war...
