KRABI: -- Blooms of 'pink jellyfish' spotted off the coast of Krabi have prompted officials to issue a warning to tourists about swimming at Phi Phi National Park.

"We are not certain exactly what species of jellyfish within the Pelagiidae family they are," said Charatsee Aungtonya, a marine expert from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR). "However, based on the photographs, especially with regards to their tentacles, it is best to avoid them."

The jellyfish warning was issued by Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park Chief Chaiya Chaikham.

Back in Oz we were taught that if it's a jellyfish with colour and tentacles keep away.

I thought I may have also read somewhere that colour in them was actually a physical indicator of a venom?

Why does the headline refer to "Red jellyfish" when the story describes them as pink? Guilt by association, perhaps?

This happens quite often. Irritating but not harmful.
