"We'll get him soon" say police hunting monk's attacker

TRANG:-- Police hunting the callous thief who attacked a defenceless old monk and poured paint over him in a southern Thai temple say an arrest is "imminent."

The shocking attack happened Saturday when the thief entered the living area of 87 year old Duang Piyananto at the Mai Faat temple in Trang province, reports Daily News.

Duang was hit over the head and arm then covered with paint used for coating metal that has left the old man nursing many burns on his skin.

Nugoon Kraithong of the Trang force said that police know the identity of the assailant but cannot reveal more at this stage as it may negatively impact the case. In announcing a special task force he said: "This is a very important case in the area for many people. We will soon have the man responsible for sure."

Meanwhile Duang was still recovering in Sikao hospital with a head and arm wound sustained in the attack. He needs close care as he was left with many burns due to the toxic nature of the paint poured over him, all of which has now been removed.

Relatives want him to come home but the old monk said that he wants to return to the temple to continue his pious life that he has followed for more than 20 years already.

How low can these criminals go , i hope they catch this guy.

Is it really necessary to subject the poor old fella to the indignity of being pointed at on top of everything he had to endure.

Sadly, I feel this is just a sign of the times.

Catch the sick bast..d then give him a coat of paint, see if he likes it.

Why the paint?

All sorts of people take refuge in the monkhood, for all sorts of reasons.

Has the past caught up with him, as it continues to catch up with ancient Nazis and child abusers?

Judgement deferred.

Brave thai, taking on on a defenseless elderly man on his own, didn't need a pack of dogs to help.

Think it's just the world in general that's getting worse more greed and poverty around and desperate people do desperate things just hope he gets caught before his next attack on the elderly or infirm sick <deleted>

I suspect that there is an underlying story here, watch this space.

Whatever the alleged provocation, there is no justification for this type of behaviour.

My first guess would be that it is better to release the name of the attacker and that would help catch him quicker.
