PHUKET: The number of people killed in road accidents in Phuket has climbed to two since the Seven Days of Danger road-safety campaign for Songkran began on Monday (Apr 11).

However, official statistics for the close of Day 4 of the campaign, which ended at midnight last night (Apr 14), show only one death – that of a Swedish motorbike rider who crashed on Thepkrasattri bridge last night. (See story here.)
“The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Phuket office reported five people injured and one death in five accidents across the island during the preceding 24 hours,” Vice Governor Prajiad Aksornthammakul said this morning at his daily report meeting.
Motorbikes were involved in four of the five accidents during the 24-hour period, he said, adding that 46 people were charged with drunk driving on Day 4 of the campaign.

This seems to indicate that, despite TV belief, people dying in hospital are included in the road fatalities statistics.

I wonder how you would die to qualify in their statistics?
