Had this computer for four years bought in Bangkok.

When I open Word it is now is informing me this copy of Microsoft office is not activated and will close down in 8 days.

Microsoft was already on the computer when I bought it and that shop has now closed down.

Do I have to go and buy a new program of Microsoft Office and if so about how much willl that cost me?

Seems like a simple problem but I'm not brilliant with computing.

Thanks for any help.

You can call Microsoft and see if they can help you. If not you can download the free LibreOffice. I have MS Office on my home computer but use LibreOffice on the computer in my condo. I won't spend the money on MS Office again when Libre does everything I need.

Buying a legal copy/license would be a good approach...and I think Microsoft and law enforcement prefer it that way (except maybe in Thailand).

I had a similar problem after a windows 10 upgrade, I had fully legit version but got this problem.

Microsoft of no use.

I now pay 200 baht a month for office 365 which comes complete with all microsoft office suite. (I think there were cheaper versions too)

There are cheaper versions, but microsoft home and student can be bought in Thailand for about 4000 baht i think.

I had a similar problem with Office 2016 because of several computer crashes and a switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I bought it online for $160 directly from MS. I think it was my 3rd or 4th time to install it because of the crashes and it balked at accepting my activation code the last time.

Contacted MS online help. Got a number to call in Bangkok. I had to enter 6 x 4 batches of numbers from my original activation key on my mobile phone then someone came on the line and read 16 x 3 batches of numbers, which I had to write down. The I typed those in, in place of the original activation key and everything is back to normal.

I forgot to mention the telephone activation, great suggestion Suradit... In my case it was a volume licence key from a former employer so things were a little different... OP should definately try telephone activation!

How many machines do you have? A subscription to Office 365 through the online Microsoft Store in Thailand will get you the Office 365 version of Office 2016 for 5 PCs or Macs, 5 phones and five tablets with 1 TB of One Drive. One drive has some nice interoperability with the office apps. Your video files are too large to insert into an email? No problem, Outlook will send the recipient a link to the videos on your One Drive. Save all of your docs, spreadsheets, etc. Automatically to your One Drive and you can open them from anywhere and use the online office apps to edit them. IMO, it's really worth the $82 I pay per year.
