Alex: You have my deepest sympathies. You did the best you can for this animal and you made the hardest decision.

Sheryl: Thanks, not trying to get on your case. If the vets don't do it, then just say so. None of them were helpful, they made to assurances that they could help. At any rate, the cat is doing well right now and I will enjoy this remission for as long as I can.

Sorry I feel a bit sad now nowing Cola died

  • 1 month later...

I agree 100% . I'm sure that if your cat could talk , she will please to not kill her , of course being in that situation make her life different from the others and sometimes make her sad and unhappy , but this is not a good reason to kill her ! I never heard of a human in the same situation or even in a worst situation being killed . So why a cat have to die for the same ? One of my cats born with an handycap to one back leg but slowly slowly he manage to have a life as the others , playing around and having fun . Now he is 3 years old and he run as fast as the others using a back knee instead of the foot !

While your cat is unhappy being lame, he/she doesn't necessarily want to be dead, either. I have seen wheeled deviced (low tech, homemade) to enable cats and dogs like yours to move around. The animals adapted well and seemed happy.

Thats true, they do seem to adapt well to them and I've seen some very happy animals in their 'chariots'. Take Sheryl's advice, its a terrible shame to kill an animal unless absolutely 'neccesary'.

Hi BKKAnimalover,

I fully agree not to kill an animal when it has some kind of handicap.

But how would you feel if you had to squeeze her intestines, bladder and stuff which caused lot's of pain

while doing that just to get urine and feaces out a few times a day?

No hope on recovery even the docter agreed it was best.

I tell you if I was in the same situation you could pull the plug as well.

Happy new year all

None of us but Alex actually saw the cat. While I share some of BKkkanimal lover's concerns, it is also true that we weren't able to directly assess the situation or the cat's sufferings. We're second guessing from his descriptions. Anyhow he made his decision and it was a hard one to make, so let's be supportive of him in his grief.

Agree 100% Alex. In our dog rescue center, we exist solely to give the dogs a chance of a better life & to that end I currently have 4 paraplegic dogs & one with a compressed spine in my house. At the center itself, we also have one amputee. We have had more (paraplegics), but these poor souls don't always live as long as they have greater chances of infection etc...

However, none of these dogs have the same problems as your cat. They can all excrete fine on their own &, as long as kept clean, are relatively healthy & happy. I have put dogs to sleep who have had problems like your cat had. I have also put dogs to sleep who had distemper, incurable cancer (when the suffering became too great), congenital abnormalities that were just too great for any quality of life...

It's not something I do lightly, I cry my eyes out every time & feel wretched about it, but sometimes it needs to be done to prevent intolerable suffering. If you have a Thai vet agreeing that it is the kindest way to go, you know that's the truth - they will not put animals to sleep for convenience.

Hi AlexLah I was not blaming You , my deep love for all the animal sometimes make me forget the logical and right way. I fully understand That arrived to the condition You describe the best solution is pull the plug , I also understand well what You are feeling in this momement and I hope to never have to face a similar situation , I use to get very sad and feel so guilty even if accidentally I kill an ant ! I really hope You can solve this situation soon . Regards
