Fat tub of lard.

That's not a nice thing to say about our mods..?

"Gen Prawit said he disagrees with having an international organization monitoring the referendum as it is not a general election."

No, it's much more important than a general election. It's the approval or rejection of the constitution that, if approved, will determine the structure of the Thai government and how it functions.

Also, since this is a military junta that came to power through a coup that much of the world considers illegal and that doesn't allow freedom of speech or press, the referendum will have zero credibility inside or outside Thailand if there aren't international monitors.

If the junta has nothing to hide, why disallow international observers. The UN and EU have been engaging as observers for many referendums in various countries.

If the UK has nothing to hide, should Cameron invite UN, US and EU observers for the Brexit vote?

Or should the US invite EU and UN observers, perhaps even Chinese or Russian, for the Presidential vote?

Or perhaps Putin should invite some for the next Russian Presidential election?

The thing that pisses the UDD and their PTP mates off is that they can't be out intimidating, threatening, lying or bribing people to vote they way they want this time. And of course they judge others by their own cheating standards.

The UK and US both allow news organization that love to uncover government misdeeds to operate freely. However, if there were a push for it, I'm sure both governments would allow international observers in to monitor their elections. Seems a bit redundant; the BBC is already closely following the US election, and CNN reporting on the Brexit vote, with many other international news organizations reporting on both. That's one of the beauties of a free press, it makes government cheating much harder.

Putin should allow freedom of the press and international observers, but he won't.

The things that piss off everyone who wants democracy in Thailand is that the junta has unchecked power, does not allow open debate of the draft constitution, and can't be trusted to allow a free referendum.

Twins.

That's a bit insulting to old Jabs don't you think? :D
