Haven't been there for a bit, but Suthep Rd (behind uni) tended to have cheap digs, where the students stay. Bit noisy, but.

No Problem, when you get here keep your eyes open for a group of 10-20 Chinese tourists rolling their bags down the street. They are going to or coming from where you want to stay and can assist you.

Check out "Nunapranee" guest house. It is safe, nice, and clean. Also, great location. Close to Soi 1 and Soi 2. And, across the moat from Loi Kroh.
