A lack of inspectors, human resources as well as holes in wire fences have been found at Cambodia’s three airports during checks ahead of a UN aviation audit in October, according to officials. Civil Aviation Secretariat spokesman Sin Chan Sereyvutha said the inspections took place between April 18 to May 2 by Australian technical aviation and security experts as part of Cambodia’s compliance to United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“They said that they found Cambodia’s airports are lacking human resources…lacking inspectors in airports…and the hole in wire fences is a big issue as things can be taken through the hole from outside or from inside out,” he said. However Mr. Sereyvutha said that these were not major issues and that the aviation body is working hard to resolve them ahead of the ICAO audit.

“What they found are not serious problems for our airports,” he said. “The aviation body is now solving problems found…We are restoring wire fences around the airports, we are recruiting new staff to work as inspectors, and we also start increasing capacity for aviation human resources.”
