NLA’s 1st Vice President still believes in merit of proposal to suspend court cases related to past political unrest

BANGKOK, 11 May 2016 (NNT) - A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly believes that the proposal to pass a law that would result in the suspension of all court cases related to past political unrest, will still work, if all sides agree to it.

NLA’s First Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai said that the idea proposed by member of the National Reform Steering Assembly Seree Suwannapanon, to enact a new law is a good call to help achieve reconciliation.

Mr. Surachai said that such a law would be effective if all groups and the public accepted it in order for the country to see real reconciliation.

He added that, although a similar attempt has failed in the past, if people are more open-minded, the opportunity should still be here to resolve all conflicts and prevent them from emerging again.

Mr. Surachai said that, so far, only those from the political side do not agree with the idea, but that also means the enactment of such a law is unlikely to happen.

Haven't most of them given themselves amnesty? Or perhaps this is a just in case we might have missed something that could come back to bite us?

I can't see blanket/universal amnesty passing muster here. The Junta/Elites just won't have it. (To their credit, some intelligent elites do recognize that the only proven way forward is total amnesty, but they represent a minority.)

Better to let any cases against yellows/Abhisit/Dems/PAD/PDRC just peter out, and arrest/charge/convict and imprison any red shirts (who haven;t already been incarcerated).

This is Junta-flavored "Judicial Reform" and "Reconciliation" all rolled into one neat, tidy package.
