PM to Meet Putin Next Week

Prime Minister Hun Sen will pay an official visit to the Russia Federation next week, where he will have a bilateral meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin. Speaking at a graduation ceremony yesterday, Mr. Hun Sen said his visit as part of the Asean-Russia summit will mark 20 years of partnership between Russia and Asean.

“Next week, I will leave for Russia,” the prime minister said. “I will be absent for some days.” Foreign Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said more information about the visit will be released soon, but confirmed Mr. Hun Sen would meet Mr. Putin.

According to an official who asked to remain unnamed, the prime minister will fly to Russia next Monday and return on May 21. In March, Mr. Hun Sen discussed the outstanding debt Cambodia owes Russia with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Vladimirovich Dvorkovich. He urged the debt be turned into investment for the development of Cambodia.
