Thai female dentist conquers Mount Everest today



BANGKOK: -- Ms Napassaporn Chumnarnsit now becomes the first Thai woman to conquer Mount Everest's summit today.

According to Thai Everest 2016 Facebook, Ms Napasdaporn or well-known as Doctor-Oeem, a dentist, has successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, 8,885 metres above mean sea level, at 09:45 pm Nepal time or at 11.00 am Bangkok time today.

But her mission has not yet accomplished as the task of climbing down the world’s highest and dangerous mountain is much more difficult.

Thai Everest 2016 Facebook said at the last route before reaching the Everest’s summit, climbers have to pass South Summit and Hillary Step which are steepest and narrowest.

Doctor-Oeem started out from Camp 4 in the night when the weather is fine, wind not strong and the sky is bright which contribute to the successful conquer.

“She is the first Thai woman to conquer the world’s highest peak. She is Thailand’s pride,” the Facebook page reported.

It further said the mission is not yet accomplished as climbing down the Everest safely is on several occassions harder than climbing up. We will follow her mission closely.

Earlier a Thai climber Vithitnan Rojanapanich has also submitted the Everest peak on May 22, 2008.

It makes up for that disastrous attempt by some Thai climbers a few years ago. It can't be easy to learn even basic snow skills for a Thai person. Well done.

I forsee a meeting with the PM upon her return to highlight the great accomplishment Thailand has achieved.

Good for her. I've never understood nations trying to bask in the glory of an achievement of an individual though, or was she sponsored by the government?

No doubt the government will try to extract a considerable amount of mileage from this success, the normal drill is a warm reception on a hero's return and the filling of slots on TV allocated to the state with their achievements, even perhaps granting them an appointment with the PM . It is hoped this will bridge the gap between the feuding political forces in Thailand.

The recently crowned World Champion in Badminton, Khun Ratchanok was given an invite to meet and test her skills against His Excellency Mr.Prayuth and before that, he also went on a tuk tuk ride around Govt House with Miss Thailand who won the World Championship in national costume. So wonder what it is going to be with Khun Napassaporn?

Scaling Mount Everest is a great achievement and should be recognized as so. Well done to the Thai mountaineer.

Giving free dental care to Hilltribe, stateless and homeless children would have been a better achievement.

It's hard to believe that Khun Napassaporn Chumnarnsit would lie through her teeth.

This woman trained very hard for this and it is a fantastic achievement so it's a shame to have so many joke about it. And although she might have been the one that actually summited a whole lot of Thai's banded together to give her the support she needed to get there in the first place so Thailand as a whole should be proud of her success. Remember it's been 2 years since anyone summited Everest since lots of people were killed in both proceeding years attempting it so she has guts.

Deep water soloing in Tonsai beach Krabi is safer than climbing Everest, but it's banned. Shame. Anyway, great acheivement Nat. Well done!

Thailand the hub of climbing

I only hope the Thais are not the next people to land on the moon or the first to land on Mars, otherwise it`s going to mean I or my descendants will need visas to visit those places in the future.

The highs and lows of Thai female dentists!

As for the highs, well today we have Ms Napassaporn Chumnarnsit becoming the first Thai woman to conquer Mount Everest, and like other TV contributors I congratulate her for that achievement.

But, don’t forget about Dr Dolrudee Jumlongras, the dentist that, it was reported, welched on an 8 million baht scholarship debt from Mahidol University, thus forcing four Thai guarantors to pay up for her! Nice achievement but definitely not an impressive feat anymore! Almost anyone with enough cash(US$ 60k), guts, good health and physical fitness can 'climb' Mt Everest these days. As someone mentioned already; Sherpa's 'carry' you to the summit. The Malory and Hillary days are long gone. The whole route is laid out and roped for easy access. The most dangerous part are avalanches and bad weather. I'd love to do it one day all the same, but it's too expensive. I hiked it from Lukla to Everest Base Camp back in 2002 with a good Dutch friend. To us that was almost the same

No, no, no. The English term hero means a man. The female equivalent - despite anything the loony left feminists and their fawning male minions may say to the contrary - is heroine. By the same token, a woman bus or orchestra conductor is a conductress and a female actor is an actress.

The traditional female forms of common nouns have nothing to do with discrimination against women. Their function is to clarify the gender of the subject noun referred to. Applying the same word for both sexes can easily cause confusion where none previously existed.

You don't believe me? Then perhaps we should ask the daughter of our reigning monarch - not exactly my idea of a downtrodden woman labouring under the patriarchal yoke - whether she would be happy to be known henceforth as Prince Anne. I imagine her brother might have something to say about that - or the alternative solution (which I have no doubt the feminists would actually prefer) that he be reassigned as Princess Charles.

Enough of this nonsense. It is time to turn back the creeping tide of political correctness which poses an increasing threat not only to our language - the world's lingua franca - but to our entire culture.
