Re consumption of a lot of beer at one time; The record is held by Andre the Giant of wrestlng fame who consumed 119 12 oz beers in 6 hours. That's one beer every 3 minutes - try it some time but take a taxi home.

Not particularly impressive. I reckon I could drink more than that in the same timeframe. However, these days I don't drink at all.

I could do a thirty pack..but probably more like 10 hours.....Used to do 1 beer every inning during baseball games...then I realized how fast some of those games were with Randy Johnson on the mound...The actually were doing contests on drinking 3 large in CM a few years ago, but that likely has been suppressed.

A minor achievement! I could drink at least 3 beers to your 1 going by your description. You're a steady drinker but no rockstar. Must try harder.

Cities are like sharks. If they don't keep moving forwards, they die.

The best thing about Bangkok is that it's constantly reinventing itself. Why cling to the past?

I dont see cities such as Quebec, Montreal, New York, London, Paris etc reinventing themselves, and to this day they still prosper.

Maybe we should tear down Buck House and turn it into another shopping mall.

Lose your history and heritage, lose your soul.

Paris has torn down old neighborhoods as have the others.

What complete ignorant rubbish. Have you even been to Paris? There are buildings dating from the 16th century everywhere in the centre of Paris. Far from "tearing them down", most buildings over 50 years old are legally preserved and protected, as they are in most European countries. Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC. Bangkok was a mosquito-infested swamp until the 1950s...

"Yes, the place you want is called Wongs."

Thanks for this rgs2001uk. Would you care to elaborate eg location, type of crowd etc. I am looking for an unpretentious establishment, one not frequented by Miss Kitty types or their skinny hipster boyfriends.

I'm not sure what constitutes a Retro Nightclub for you, but I would have said Maggie Choo's under the Novotel Hotel in Silom is the most 'Retro' in its decor and vibe. Shanghai 30's cool is the style of the place.

However your comment about not wanting places that are pretentious might preclude Maggie Choo's.

I think you'd enjoy Smalls. It's in Suan Phlu and is easy to Google for details and reviews etc.

I feel, this is the place for you, you wont be bothered by Hello Kitty types, or their "gay" boyfriend types.

There wont be anyone ordering a skinny latte.

No Miss Kitty types to ne seen.

Maybe you should ask those who, dont live here where they suggest,.

Everytime I've been to Wong's its been filled with Hipsters. Its also been so packed you can barely move, can't easily get a drink.

re: Paris, rubbish...there was a dude named Haussmann:

are blues clubs considered to be 'retro'? I'd like to find one in BKK so long as they admit me with my walking frame and unpredictable bladder/bowels...

I hang in Paris for a couple of weeks each year to visit my son who lives in Brighton (he has a good connection via Eurostar from St Pancras to the Gare du Nord) but can't seem to get further afield than the local supermarket...lovely fresh peaches last summer...

Hipsters? Is that the new name for trashpackers, who got out their smartphone and found the cheapest drinks in BKK (that weren't in red light areas, of course)?

You think Wong's has the cheapest drinks in Bangkok?

You must not get out much.
