Trump says he gave himself aliases often in business
By JILL COLVIN and AMY TAXIN

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Wednesday that he often used aliases to purchase real estate — but continued to deny he'd been caught on tape pretending to be an imaginary spokesman in a recently-released recording.

"You know, over the years I've used aliases," Trump said in an interview on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that capped a day of campaigning across the Los Angeles area.

Trump has repeatedly denied that he posed as a spokesman for himself decades ago using the names "John Miller" and "John Barron." But when asked by Kimmel what aliases he'd used, Trump volunteered Barron, which is also the name of Trump's youngest son.

"I actually used the name Barron," said Trump, who said he'd made "a very good deal using that name."

"I used an alias in terms of setting up a meeting with Mr. Donald Trump. And many people in the real estate business do that, you use alias. And you have to, frankly, otherwise they find out it's you and they charge you more money - and nobody wants to pay more money," he said.

Trump said he'd used the tactic "especially when I was out in Brooklyn with my father and I'd want to buy something."

"And honestly nobody knew who Trump was at that time, nobody knew me, so it wasn't so much so important. But I would never want to use my name because you had to pay money for the land. If you're trying to buy land, you use different names," he said.

The appearance on the late-night show marked the end of a busy day that included a rally and Trump's first major campaign fundraiser.

A day after violent protesters outside a Trump rally threw burning items at police and toppled barricades, Trump's afternoon rally in Anaheim was boisterous but less heated. He railed against "Crooked Hillary" Clinton and leaders in his own party who haven't yet endorsed him.

Outside, demonstrators quietly held up signs reading "Love and Peace" and "Migration is beautiful" during the rally, but the modest crowd grew rowdier when Trump supporters came outside. The two sides shouted at each other as dozens of police, some on horseback, moved in to prevent a renewal of the violence Tuesday night in New Mexico.

Five people were arrested as a line of police slowly moved scattered protesters along a nearby street.

Inside, Trump's rally was interrupted several times by protesters who were escorted out of the Anaheim Convention Center.

"Get 'em out!" he shouted at one point. "Out! Out! Out!" But Trump urged his supporters and security to handle his interrupters gently, saying, "Do not hurt him even though he's a bad person."

Trump also used his event Wednesday to hammer Clinton over a State Department inspector general report that faulted her for her use of private email for official business when she was secretary of state.

"She had a little bad news today, as you know. Some reports came down, weren't so good," Trump said. "The inspector general's report — not good."

Trump's campaign apparatus was also roiled Wednesday by the abrupt departure of political director Rick Wiley. In a statement, Trump's campaign said Wiley had been hired only on a short-term basis until the candidate's organization "was running full steam."

Wiley had been overseeing hiring of staff in battleground states and working closely with the Republican National Committee. His hiring about six weeks ago was seen as a sign that party veterans were embracing Trump's campaign.

While Wiley and the RNC have touted the importance of a robust general election infrastructure, Trump has said he plans to continue making his raucous rallies the centerpiece of his campaign.

A person familiar with Wiley's ouster said the operative clashed with others in Trump's operation and didn't want to put longtime Trump allies in key jobs as he hired in battleground states. The person insisted on anonymity because the person was not authorized to publicly discuss the internal campaign dynamics.

Wiley is said to have clashed in particular with Karen Giorno, who ran Trump's campaign in Florida during the Republican primary, the person said.

On "Kimmel," Trump, who was jokingly introduced as "a tangerine-tinted Godzilla," said he enjoyed watching Clinton's increasingly heated sparring with Democratic rival Bernie Sanders.

"I had no idea it was going to be so nasty," said Trump, who said he would be happy to take Sanders up on an offer to a one-on-one debate — as long as significant money goes to charity.

"How much is he going to pay me?" Trump asked, predicting the pair "would have such high ratings."

Sanders said on Twitter late Wednesday that he would welcome a debate: "Game on. I look forward to debating Donald Trump in California before the June 7 primary."

Trump's western swing comes as he works to unify a Republican Party that often remains skeptical of his candidacy. During the rally, Trump offered jabs at 2012 nominee Mitt Romney and former rival Jeb Bush, who have yet to endorse his candidacy.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is still holding out on endorsing Trump even as his staff and other House Republicans and aides communicate more closely with the Trump campaign on policy.

Meeting with reporters Wednesday, Ryan shot down rumors that an endorsement was imminent. "I don't have a timeline in my mind and I have not made a decision and nothing's changed from that perspective," he said.

The violence earlier this week at a rally in New Mexico prompted security concerns beyond California. Police in Bismarck, North Dakota, said Wednesday they would dedicate about a quarter of their force for security when Trump heads to the state Thursday.

Trump will be back in California Friday with visits to Fresno and San Diego.

Lyin' Donald. Everyone knows it was him on that tape. He really doesn't respect his followers. As he's said, he could start murdering innocent people on the street, and they'd still love him! Sickness is in the land and it's embodied in the vile monster.

The key to beating the vile monster is exposing what a dangerous NUTCASE he is, again and again and again, and hope that the majority of American voters are going to be motivated enough to prevent that to ever ascend to the presidency.

Yes, he'll be nominated, and horribly there is a chance he'll be president.

But he should never be accepted as a normal candidate.

yeah...so what?

don't most of us use an alias, or hide behind an avatar id?

non news..compared to the big events destroying Hillary. What is this?

Sounds like a discontented democrat trying to dream up some kind of issue..again.

Boring.

Businessmen and writers...to name a few...use aliases. Aliases are legal.

Giving away state secrets on a home network is not...hillary.

If I was a billionaire, I would often hide my identity, to avoid complications.

If I was Hillary...I should would be consulting my lawyer...damn criminal.

People don't care if you get caught lying, they know all politicians do that anyway, all the time. What they care about is some action. Haven't seen any of that yet.

It shows again trump is insane. There was almost no political price to admit he was on that tape years ago, yet he continues to lie about it, and of course nobody believes it. It fits with his truthful statement that his core supporters would still love him if he went out on the street and starting murdering innocent people. Will the majority of Americans still elect such a nutcase as president? I still think not.

Really just a high class grifter, flim flam man, confidence man, huckster, and at base - SWINDLER.

Isn't this just so obvious, and hasn't it been so obvious for all these years? Who hasn't been watching this clown all these years? How on earth is anybody now taking this guy seriously? What has gone wrong with so many Americans that they follow this phony?

Geez! I never, ever, sent my Thai g/f to go buy something for me so I'd get the Thai price! Never, I tells ya!

Sincerely,

Mr. JetsetBkk of Rawai.

No alias here. Honest!

But we're all nobodies chuckd... sharing our collective pearls of wisdom on a forum for Thai expats.

This clown wants to be a somebody. The next President of the US, to be precise. The defacto leader of the free world.

That kinda changes the equation a wee bit, don't you think?

Pssst, NumbNut, just between you and me: maybe it's better to stay on Chuck's good side. For all you know he's of the republican persuasion, and doesn't appreciate being talked back to. Just a hunch, mind you.

Perhaps if he is visiting a head of state and wants to get a good deal we will see him introduced as President Arthur Two Sheds Jackson of the Republic of Vanatu, after signing the deal he pulls off his stick on moustache and says " guess what it's meeeee".

One of the funniest things ever that you compare the two situations. Its true that no matter what a republican does he will always have people to make excuses for his actions.

Disagree. We're most of us all somebody important, and I would wager that none of us used subterfuge in our careers to get ahead. That shows deceitful character. You would condemn that behavior in your friends or acquaintances, why approve it in your leader who is supposed to model the way for the rest of us?

From most of the guys contributing thoughtful comments on this forum I can see any one of us would make a more honest and more qualified leader of the free world than this duplicitous carnival barker.

How could that be? Hillary is not a Republican, but she has more excuses than a farting cow.

Again...being offensive makes you a sucker for a sucker punch(line).

That is exactly why Trump is trampling democrats and why he...as of today...is no longer the "Presumptive Nominee".

Thanks to the offensive, stupidy of anti-trumpers and their foul, offensive language...you have now secured his nomination by alienating those who would turn to your cause. (we don't want to lower our standards)

Plenty of action by the no trumpers.

All negative...all bad....all uncontrolled...and unlawful.

The action you will see soon is Hillary facing a solid case built on months of investigation. Expect that before the Democratic Convention. We..the people..

Smearing Trump over something nit picking on TVF is hardly going to affect the election.

Today CBS announced that Trump now has a majority of the delegates for the nomination. After polling delegates, Trump has 1238, one more than needed. He still has several delegate-rich primaries where he leads including California where he will pick up a lot more delegates. He's going to the convention with a YUGE lead.

The professional prognosticators said:

1. He wouldn't run.

2. When he ran they said he'd drop out.

3. When they realized he was serious they said he wouldn't win a single primary.

4. When he began to win primaries they said he'd never get above 30%. This week in Washington State he won 76% of the votes.

5. When he knocked out 16 competitors, many of whom were highly backed insiders, they said he wouldn't get enough delegates to win on a first ballot. They said it would be a contested convention and Trump would lose.

6. Today CBS announced that Trump has one more delegates than he needs to have a majority and win on the first ballot. He has 1238 delegates. He has several more states to go and pick up a lot more delegates.

7. Only the willfully blind are saying that Trump can't beat that bale of hay Hillary.

8. President Trump.

Cheers.

The issue is not that he used an alias years ago. that's no big deal. The issue is he lied and continues to lie about it. It's obvious to anyone with two brain cells working in tandem. And it's such a cheap shot lie. As Jingthing and others say, why can't the buffoon just admit he used an alias (he already admitted it years ago), and just go on with things. Yet, because he's so low class, he has to keep trying to fool Americans. He must think we're very dumb and gullible.

People who lie about little things, will lie about big things. They'll cheat also. If Trump were president, and he declared something (for example: "China is placing nuclear weapons on the islands it's commandeered near the Philippines.") ....should Americans believe him? Even when he states emphatically, (for example: "believe me folks, the wall just got 10 feet higher. I promise you, I will build a wall, and Mexico will pay for it.") ....should Americans believe him?

The mark of a deep-set habitual liar, is a person who adds prefaces and post-phrases to things he says. In other words, the more adamant & pseudo-persuasive the person is, the more likely it's a lie.

If Trump arrived in his gold-colored Cadillac (with his name in large letters along the side) to take your 17 year old daughter to a party, and he tells the the dad, "Trust me on this, there is no way I would get lustful toward her, no matter how ravishing she looks. Even if she puts her hands on me and tried to kiss me, you can be sure I wouldn't violate her virginity. You can trust me on that." Does that sound like The Hoodwinker?

Really just a high class grifter, flim flam man, confidence man, huckster, and at base - SWINDLER.

Allow me to re-phrase your sentence........

Really just a LOW class grifter, flim flam man, confidence man, huckster, and at base - SWINDLER.

Like Trump Promised.

"This is going to be great" ...."Really Great".

Congratulations Mr. Trump....who is now the Republican Nominee..by their own rules.

The Media needs to now move on and call him the "Presumptive President of the United States"

as nobody left has the ability to challenge him.

I do suggest he increase security...as dumbos like the New Mexicans are probably going to set a trap.

Hillary is crying today..I am sure she is having a very serious nervous breakdown, and her panties are all in a bunch over the series of events going against her...in the past few days.

Karma...Hillary....Karma

Bernie is still around

coffee1.gif ...oh yeah..I forgot. Bernie.

Glad you put that in

There is still enough thuglife on the streets to block Trump's Inauguration. Lets see what comes out of the woodwork next !

My prediction is Trump will attain a sure victory...by a very wide margin. It just gets bigger folks...really big.

Sander's will have to pull a fast one....but, I think the strain of all this is wearing him out. Possibly some revolutionary college kids who support Hamas and want tuna fish companies to stop catching dolphins in their nets......throw that in with some thuglife from New Mexico. You know...those guys that ride around in low riders....car hood rippling with loud music.. (no green card..but maybe a green car).

Yeah..they can be irritating.
