Do banana trees attract snakes?

I tend to think that banana trees would provide the perfect place for snakes to hide and look for prey, especially in the loose leaf litter on the ground.

But the wife informs me that snakes actually avoid banana litter because they don't like slithering over the dry leaves.

We keep our bananas well suckered and tidy, but we still get the odd snake around; although I have never seen one actually where the bananas are.

She is farm raised and has more experience than me, but I can't help thinking that snakes would actually be attracted to these sheltered places.

I think not as such although they'll go anywhere where they're camouflaged in search of prey.

There is the green viper which is common in banana plantations mind!

Banana's are herbs or rather herbaceous plants as opposed to trees (no woody structure).

If I were you I would be more concerned about the toilet than the banana trees after the Python story a day or two ago.

Snakes are attracted by their food and other snakes. Be living that a snake would avoid a type of leaf because of the feel to their skin is like the old Texas Cowboy believe that a Rattle Snake would not cross a hemp rope so, they would be protected a night by laying a hemp rope around their beds.

Actually, Rat snakes and cobra's gave no problem near our banana trees, but I must admit I have never seen one up one. I will have to check. I do think that Chinese pit vipers (bamboo snakes) like them though.

We have a small patch of about 25 banana trees. In 30 years, we've only ever seen one snake there--a long green viper giving up after fighting a neighbourhood Siamese, retreating into the banana tree!

Banana trees attract spiders but I don't think snakes really go for them. Bamboo on the other hand with attract snakes and mosquito's

The nasty snakes are not near the banana trees but mostly around the beer bars in Pattaya, Phuket and Soi 4 Nana. Their bite can be sometimes lethal, especially if you are wearing a gold chain and/or roaming the streets after 3am.

As unlikely that this report was verbatim I would accept that an aquarion python which instead of escaping the plumbing would instead elect to clench tender bits is as likely as slightly bent minded snakes would gravite towards banana and the more common plantain plants.

i worked on a banana farm in my younger days, never had a problem with snakes but plenty of rats liked to make their nest in the hanging bananas which would fall out when carrying them from the tree to the trailer.

Many times the female (and pretend to be female) snakes in the sois of Pattaya hearing is so good that they from fourty meters away detect the opening of a wallet and be on you in a flash.

And those well armoured and large beetles.

My banana trees do not seem to attract snakes, they can be found in them like any other tree though.

I don't think banana trees attract snakes. Snake are not supposed to like lemon grass. The worst snake scare I ever got was beside of one of our ponds. There is a huge clump of lemon grass there. I was about five feet from it when a huge snake reared up inside the clump. I backed up so fast that I fell on my butt. When I looked up the snake was swimming across the pond. My heart must be healthy because if not, I would have surely had a heart attack.
